BANG BANG!
A sound pierces your ears.
Disturbed,
You turn over on your side.
In a blink of an eye,
You see flashing colors of red, white and blue.
Suddenly,
You register the sound you've just heard.
A gun, you think.
Quickly,
You detangle yourself from your covers
And run to your daughter's room.
She under her bed
Muffling her cries with her stuffed bear. Relieved
You tell her to go to the "safe spot".
Hurriedly,
You make your way over to your son's room. The window is open
And rain is pouring into the room.
There's a loud clap of thunder.
You ignore the stormy weather
And find that there is no sight of him.
There are several loud agitated knocks
On the doors and a muffled voice
Telling you to open the door.
All of a sudden a scary thought
Makes it's way to your head,
But you push it away as you turn the knob.
You hear the very words you
Were trying to escape just a moment before, "I'm sorry ma'am. Your son is dead."
You collapse in the officer's arms,
Screaming your son's name,
Knowing very well that he's not in the house But that he's the one being bagged and carried Away on a gurney.
You continuously sob
Even as your little girl sees
Her mother as a limbless figure.
In your state of panic,
It's all your brain seems able to do.
Why did this have to happen to me?
You think.
Why does a bullet dictate lives?
I think.
Gun violence is a serious issue.
Too many deaths have been reported,
Too many lives lost,
Too many people mourning...
Just too many.
There's only one way to stop this catastrophe:
STOP GUN VIOLENCE!
