before you start reading i'm just gonna say that i wrote this about a year ago-ish i don't really know when but naturally, writing improves and mine did greatly. all i'm saying is, the beginning of this story is kind of crap but i can't rewrite it until i'm finished with the sequel and everything. so even though the beginning of this sucks, just read it because it does get kinda good. thank you. all of you are super cute. ((ps ignore the random changes in who's telling the story like in the middle of the chapter i was dumb and thought that was okay))

honestly just save yourself and skip to like chapter 26 you'll figure out what you missed

if not then enjoy 300 word chapters for a while i suck

(Riley's POV)

I finish tying my shoe and I put my ear buds in. I need to get out of this house; clear my mind, just stop thinking of everything. I walk down the familiar street to the park. It looks prettier than usual. Maybe because of the pink glow from the rising sun or maybe because I'm just paying attention to how beautiful it really is or maybe both.

When I enter the park, I start to jog. I don't know why, but jogging has always helped me clear my mind, and I need it now more than ever.

As I jog, I allow my mind to just wonder and forget about all my current problems, including my mom being as sick as she is and trying to pay the bills without her in work and my dad gone to only God knows where. We're simply relying on my job for money to pay bills and buy food. But I let myself forget about all of that right now.

I stare at the ground, paying attention to each step and the rhythm of the song and the lyrics of the song. "Long live, that look on your face," I sing quietly.

I look up only when I found that I've run into something-or someone. When I lift my head, I see a boy, about my age, maybe older. He's wearing a gray beanie over his light brown hair and his deep blue eyes sparkle down on me. "Wow," he says so softly that I could barely make out the word.

I look up at him, a small smile growing on my face. "'Wow' what?" I ask.

"You," is all he says, returning my smile. His smile is beautiful, and so is he. He's taller than me, with defined cheek bones and those eyes...

I snap myself out of the trance that I fell into and finally mutter a sorry for running into him. "No, it's fine, I'm almost happy you did. Is there any reason you're up so early?" he asks.

"It helps me clear my mind and I have no other time to come and just be by myself," I explain to him. He smiles at me again. "Do you have a reason to be at the park at five in the morning?"

"It's always very pretty when the sun is just rising, and it's the only time the park is completely empty," he tells me. "What's your name?" he asks me, realizing that he hadn't already.

"Riley."

"Riley," he says, like he's testing it or something. "That's a pretty name. What's your middle name?" he asks. Now I'm almost creeped out. "I'm sorry, that was really creepy," he says, laughing a little.

"No, it's fine. My middle name is Ann." I smile at him.

"Riley Ann. I like that," he says, looking at me. "I like you, Riley Ann."

"I think I might like you, too, if I knew your name," I say to him.

"You probably need to know that, don't you Riley Ann," he says with a smile. "It's Hunter."

"Well, Hunter, it was nice meeting you, but I'd better get home. I have to get my brother and sister up for school," I say. His face falls a little.

"Okay then, I hope to see you again. Bye, Riley Ann," he says, holding his hand out. I take it and shake it.

"Same to you, Hunter," I say with a smile. Then I turn around to start my jog home.

*AUTHOR'S NOTE LOL*

I know the first chapter is short. sorry. and this is based off of a story that I wrote on Instagram, but it was a fan fiction and I decided that it would be better if it wasn't a fan fiction so I'm rewriting it as a story. thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy it! I love you(:
