A/N: the chapters are going to end up being kind of short, like this one. (I'll always say where we are in the beginning of the chapter or the section; just a heads up :D)

-In Potions later that week-
I walked into the dungeon, and was immediately greeted by an assortment of pretty strange smells. I sat down in a seat towards the back, and pulled out my Potions book. After I had laid my quill and parchment out, Draco came into the room, looked around, and walked to sit right next to me. He said absolutely nothing: it was like he was waiting for me to initiate the coversation. I didn't know why he'd decided to plop down next to me; there were about 12 open seats in front of me. I decided to be friendly, at the very least.
"Hi." I said.
"Hello. You're Sage, right?" He asked rather formally. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. This guy needed to learn how to speak to a regular person without sounding like a prissy old witch at the Apothecary. Dear. God.
"That would be me." Leaning in a bit, I asked,
"So, who's the teacher for this class anyway?" He gave me a conspiratorial smirk, and answered,
"Professor Snape. Head of Slytherin House. I'm already one of his favorites, so this class going to be easy."
"Woah. You're already wonderful at Potions, and you've been within this room for less than four minutes. Impressive. Takes more than knowing the teacher to be good at a class, you know." I teased, doodling a Snitch on a scrap bit of parchment. He gave me a careful look, before he realized I was just messing around.
"I'm just that amazing." He responded, finally cracking a smile.

At that very moment, Professor Snape strode into the room, with his robes flying behind him. The class became silent immediately, and Professor Snape began his little beginning-of-term speech. I was intrigued. This class was going to be a challenge. Whenever Snape said things like, "select few..." he would look at Draco. Then Draco would look at me and give me a little smile, as if to say, See? Told you I was a favorite.
From then on, Draco sat next to me every Potions lesson, and we became fast friends. I understood the mechanics of the potions, and Draco understood the practical side of the class, so it worked. It always worked.
