Who knew 10 minutes could change everything? The way you speak the way you walk the way you live. 10 minutes changed my sister Lacey's, life. To this day she is in a wheelchair and struggling to keep in tact with the outside world.
Everyday it taunts me thinking that I almost killed her, oh yeah, I forgot to leave out that part. It's my fault she's like this. Of course every time I see her she just reminds me it isn't my fault. But it is. I could just imagine how traumatic it would've been for her.
"Come pick me up now" read the text on the night of he accident. But I thought that I could just stop at the local market to get her some greasy food, supposing she had a big night out. 5 minutes through the drive through and 5 minutes there.
By the time I got there with the burger and the disgusting amount of fries. I checked my phone, it read "I've been picked up by Kyle already, just go home I'll see you there." Kyle was her boyfriend, and I knew that trouble led wherever he went." So I panicked but I thought it over and just decided to go home. Once I was there, a police car out the front my house stood still, and I started to fidget. I pulled into the driveway and rushed inside to see my mother crying and police man obviously breaking bad news. She didn't say anything on the way to the hospital. But when we got there she bolted into the room where my sister, Lacy, lied silent and gentle. The nurse came over and told us that when they found her she was in the car alone in the passenger seat. I knew this was Kyle's game. And to this day it taunts me knowing if I hadn't been 10 minutes late Lacey wouldn't be like this. She wouldn't be struggling to eat and drink.
She would just be Lacey. Not the Lacey who spends time in the hospital. Just Lacey.
