Joey’s Story

Chapter 2

“Hey you’re that kid…” One of the town’s local hobos called out to me. “You’re the kid who killed his parents!” He slowly took a step back and watched me carefully. “You’re a bad kid…”

I turned away from him and stared up at the sky as it rained down on me. My dark brown hair was getting soaked and started to cling to my forehead. Small rain drops ran past my dark brown-hazel eyes and off of my chin. It didn’t look like it was going to let up anytime soon.

“You should be in prison…” The hobo started to talk again. “Either that or you should be dead…” He really didn’t know how to shut up!

I couldn’t take it anymore. I walked out onto the sidewalk and started heading out of town. I figured no one in different towns would know about my past.

So I walked with water in my black converse and a drenched backpack over my head. It wasn’t that long of a walk, you could get from one side of town to another in about ten minutes of walking time.

Around six minutes after getting out of town, I entered another one. This one was much larger than my home town. Apartment buildings filled the streets with shops on the lower levels.

“Hey…”

I turned around and stared at the man who I assumed was talking to me. He was wearing a business suit and his hair was neatly gelled back and protected by a black umbrella.

“I know you; you were on the news last year.” He took a step closer and looked me over carefully. “You’re the kid who killed his parents.” He practically shouted it out to everyone around us.

If this town knew, then maybe the rest of the state knew! What the hell am I going to do now? I can’t just keep running from people.

“You’re an insane kid, you should be locked up, and killing people is obviously a crime.” People around us started to surround us. I was starting to feel claustrophobic.

The man was about to say something else but I took off before the words could escape his lips. I sprinted down the street toward the nearby river with a bridge that I used to love.

When I finally got there, I was alone. The sound of wind in my ear and water splashing at the shore started to calm me down a little. I was starting to regret running off like this, but I needed to get away from everything.

Whispering came from behind me, making the anger and sadness return. I quickly spun myself around and stared at the two shocked ladies. They stared at me with fear in their eyes.

I clenched my fists and just ran! I could take this anymore. Obviously no one cares about me or my happiness enough to stop the rumors.

So I might as well get it over with...
