-IN THE HUFFLEPUFF COMMON ROOM LATER THAT WEEK-
I was sitting in one of the squashy armchairs that occupied the Hufflepuff Common Room, when I heard something rustling in one of the corners near the entrance. My eyebrow quirked, but I didn't think anything of it. Probably some first-year trying to sneak out after hours, I decided. I continued reading my book, which contained knights in shining armor and battles to the death.
    "Hey."
I looked up, and my jaw dropped. There, standing the middle of the flippin' Hufflepuff Common Room, was none other than Draco Malfoy.
"Draco?! What in the world are you doing here?" I asked him. Draco gave me a shy smile, and pulled out from behind his back a bouquet of red roses.
"I was wondering if you, Sage, would like to go to the Yule Ball with me?" He asked timidly. I brushed my dark hair behind my ear, and stood up. I walked over to him, and gave him a hug. He lifted me off the ground and whirled me around, and finally set me down.
"I'll take that as a yes." Draco said with a more confident smile.
-IN THE COURTYARD ABOUT A WEEK LATER-
I was sitting on a bench, writing my Potions essay. It was a gorgeous spring afternoon, and most everyone was outside enjoying it's warmth. Draco was up in a tree, just sitting there. He told me he was thinking. At least ¾ of the Hogwarts students were wearing stupid "Potter Stinks" badges. I suspected Draco was behind it, but I hadn't asked him about it yet.
I wrinkled my nose, and began scribbling furiously onto my paper, in an attempt to look busy. Harry Potter himself had just entered the courtyard. Everyone began laughing at him, and motioning towards their badges. He looked absolutely fed-up with these shenanigans. I couldn't blame him; I would feel the same in his shoes. My robes were clear of one of those badges, as it seemed unfair to him that he had actually done well in the challenges so far, and then there was the a great amount of the student body making fun of him. I wondered why Dumbledore hadn't stopped it yet.
Harry stopped to talk to Cedric Diggory for a moment, and then attempted to go by the tree Draco was sitting in. Draco called out to Harry, sneering, and then lept down from his perch in the huge oak. Draco made another comment, and Harry made a furious retort. Harry turned around, and Draco pulled out his wand. Professor Moody yelled,
"OH NO YOU DON'T!" and waved his wand in a crazy swirling motion. All of a sudden, I heard a small shriek, and laughter. I couldn't see Draco from where I was sitting, which was odd, because he'd been there a moment ago. I threw down my parchment, and ran over to where all the commotion was happening. Where Draco had been standing a moment before, was a snow-white ferret. It yelped in surprise as Professor Moody began flipping it up and down, and around. I made eye contact with the small creature, and I realized something. The ferret was... was... Draco? Professor Moody flipped Draco down Goyle's trousers, and Goyle screamed like I'd never heard a boy scream before. My eyes widened in terror, and I covered my mouth with my hands. Draco finally managed to scrabble out of Goyle's pants, and Professor McGonagall turned Draco back into Draco. Professor McGonagall then began giving Professor Moody a very stern lecture, and Draco made a somewhat cowardly retreat. Can't blame him. If I'd been stuffed down someone's pants, I'd want to get as far away as possible from the person who did it. I watched Draco run down the hall, away from the scene. He had seen me there. His face had turned bright red when we made eye contact once he was human again. I just hoped he wouldn't take this out on Harry Potter.
