My Arrogant Neighbor

Justin's eyes didn't falter from mine, in fact, after a few seconds, he had given me a devious smirk before continuing to make the drink behind the counter. He had done it with such ease like he had been doing it his whole life.

Antonio had snickered beside me and nudged my thigh.

"Excuse me sweetie, if you won't go for that delicious piece of cake, than honey move out the way."

Antonio squeezed out of the booth and walked over to Justin with a sway in his hips. Getting to the bar, he placed his elbows on the counter and waved his one hand. Justin broke eye contact with me and walked over to him emotionlessly.

I could see Justin's lips moving before he placed around of shots on a plate. Antonio slid him some cash and I could see Justin smile at what he must've said after.

"So, you have a thing with this, Justin?" Arden's voice was right next to my ear. With the music in the room, I wouldn't have heard her farther away.

My head snapped to her with a grimace on my face. "No, he's just my neighbor."

"A very sexy neighbor." Arden sipped knowingly on her drink with eyes wide in Justin's direction. Something stirred in my stomach but was washed away when I could feel the drink coursing through me. I wanted to look back in his direction, I could feel his gaze on me, but I knew if I did, I would be playing into whatever game he's getting at.

Antonio came back with the shots on the platter and slid into the booth.

"How did it go?" Arden asked while leaning back into the cushions of the booth. The way she asked it already implied she knew the answer. Antonio pursed his lips before rolling his eyes with a playful tone.

"Unfortunately, that piece of cake wants no part of Antonioville. Whatever, his loss." I gulped down the rest of my drink with ease.

The music continued bouncing off the walls and vibrating through my body. I watched aimlessly as people grinded up against each other.

"So did you hear about Beauty Magazine's new international pitch?" Antonio's question caught me off guard and my head snapped back to his voice. He downed another shot and grimaced.

"Well it definitely will be international. Grey said she is trying to open corporate offices in Milan, Tokyo, Italy. She is trying to go public with it soon but as of now, I hear she's testing out the candidates."

My eyebrows furrowed at the word candidates. "What do you mean candidates?"

"Grey is testing everyone is the company. Looking at past references, log credits, performance, and journal entries. She is trying to find people to run the companies in different parts of the world."

"You mean like the head of a company?" I asked. Antonio and Arden shared a look. "What?"

Arden leaned into me so I could hear her better. "Grey was looking into your files the other day. They were sprawled over her desk when I walked in. I don't know what's going on but I didn't want to tell you and have you be concerned."

I knew people like Arden. On the outside world, away from work and priorities, she could be an overall good person. But when you saw her work, she was all about her. She only looked out for herself, she was strong and independent. I wish I had that.

Arden grabbed a shot from the platter Antonio had brought over and gulped it down.

"Well, I need to dance." Antonio slapped the table and dragged Arden unwillingly out of the booth and onto the dance floor. I watched as they began to move their hips to the music and other people joined in on their vibe.
