Until I Met You

Chapter 4

Yuki is really, really annoyed.

You might be wondering what could have annoyed the introverted girl. Well I'll tell you, she tended Kean's bruises from getting beat up again by Gary. She tried to scold Kean or try to tell a teacher but her shyness would always prevent her from doing so, instead she would just glare at him really hard.

Kean was trying to apologize to Yuki as she glared at him. She was clenching her book so hard that she was afraid that her finger nails would pierce through the covering of the book.

Yuki didn't said anything after Kean was done talking, instead she stuffed her things in her bag and quickly went out, not even sparring him a glance . She was not angry at Kean, Yuki just couldn't understand why Kean would let himself get beat up like that, she couldn't stand to see him getting hurt, it always pains her whenever she saw him with cuts and bruises on his face.

Kean would tell her that he's just fine and that it doesn't hurt much, but Yuki could see him wince and suppress a groan every time she applies the ointment. It was really frustrating too, because Kean would just smirk at her like nothing happened and then would take a nap at the couch while she pick of where she left of in her book.

Yuki's apartment was the next town over. She didn't feel like going home early so she went to this antique bookstore downtown. She always liked it there because it was quiet and not much people around plus they sometimes have books that the public library didn't have.

The bookstore is owned by an old man who is simply known as "Pops", he would always give Yuki a book from his personal collection and when she tried to pay Pops would always push the money away and tell her that it's a gift.

The bell rang as Yuki opened the door, she headed for the counter to greet the owner when she was surprised that Pops wasn't there, instead it was his grand daughter.

"Yuki! Long time no see" the girl with blond hair and emerald green eyes exclaimed

"I'm sorry, I have been busy" Yuki answered monotonously

The girl smiled at her then said "Oh yeah Pops wanted you to have this" as she handed Yuki a book with a ribbon tied around it

"Early Christmas gift" the girl continued

Yuki took the book and reached for her wallet but the girl stopped her.

"Yuki, that book is a gift from Pops, you don't pay for it"

"But Wendy, I--"

"No buts, no cuts, no coconuts" Wendy said "Don't worry bout all that shit okay? You're like family, my sweet,shy and nerdy little sister"

"But I haven't given you and Pops a gift yet" Yuki mumbled

"I said don't worry" Wendy chided her "How about you treat me some blueberry pancakes at Uncle Sam's and that would be your gift to me"

Yuki pondered about it for a moment, she decided that she'd treat Wendy but would still giver her a gift for Christmas.

"Okay" she said as a small smile crossed her face.

Wendy Moore has always been like Yuki's second sister. She rarely sees her  parents and her older sister is busy with college. Wendy is perhaps the only friend Yuki made besides Kean. She always like Wendy's attitude towards things though she's a bit jealous because Wendy could express herself without having her heart beating so fast like it's going to explode.

When they reached the diner in front of the store they both ordered blueberry pancakes and a glass of orange juice. Another thing that Yuki like about Wendy is that she doesn't push her to talk unlike other people, she would just wait for Yuki to start talking.

By the end of their meal Yuki told Wendy about Kean, how he joined the Literary club, how he got her a library card and how annoyed she is about him getting beat up. Wendy just sipped her orange juice and asked an occasional question when the moment called for it.

"Boys and their pride" Wendy said waving her fork around "Don't mind him much, he'll come to his senses"

To which Yuki replied by nodding her head.

Yuki was surprised when she saw a gray BMW park in front of the book store, she was even more surprised when she saw the man sitting by the stairs. He looked like an older version of Kean same built and hair color, although the man's is messy unlike Kean's spiky hair. The other notable difference was the man has electric blue eyes that seemed to give of an aura of power. Yuki found herself immediately blushing when the man looked at them.

Wendy approached the man and gave him a tight hug. The man then gently placed his arm around Wendy.

"Yuki, this is my boyfriend Damian Cloud"

"H-hi I'm Y-yuki" she stuttered

Damian gave Yuki a half smile that seemed to rival Kean's grin. He held out his hand and shook her's which resulted in her ears betting pink.

"Pleasure to meet you" he said in a deep scraggly voice.

Yuki couldn't meet those electric blue eyes so she just nodded.

"Hey Master, why don't you go inside, you're making her uncomfortable" Wendy said as she handed  Damian the keys.

Damian rolled his eyes, gave another half-smile then patted Yuki's head which made her blush even more.

"Don't worry Damian has that effect on people" Wendy winked once Damian was out of earshot

"Sorry" Yuki mumbled

Wendy just laughed and ruffled Yuki's hair "Don't worry, at least I'm reassured that Damian is really a hottie"

"Come back soon okay?" Wendy said as she hugged Yuki

"I will"

That night Yuki couldn't sleep. She couldn't stop thinking about Kean, specifically the way she reacted. Yuki was wondering if Kean got mad at her, would he stop talking at her? or would he quit the club? The possibilities made Yuki shake in fear, she doesn't want Kean to leave, she didn't know it yet but Yuki is slowly developing feelings for Kean, feelings that she couldn't even understand.

what would he say to me? Yuki wondered.

Deciding she couldn't sleep anymore Yuki grabbed her glasses and went to the kitchen to get a drink. I'll apologize to him tomorrow Yuki thought as she smiled softly to herself. She glanced at the clock and saw that it was almost 4 in the morning so Yuki decided to continue reading the book Pops gave her. The book's title is "L'étranger" a french book written by Alfred Camus, Yuki was immediately drawn to the book's premise, it was unique compared to what she usually read.

Yuki finshed the book at 7 am in the morning, she then made preparations on going to school when something hanging on the knob of her door caught her eye, it was Kean's black scarf the one he lent to her when she forgot her's. Yuki couldn't forget the intoxicating scent when she put the scarf around her. She quickly blushed when she remembered when Kean wrapped it around her. She forgot that she still have his favorite scarf

Yuki folded the scarf as she gently put it inside her bag, now she has two things to do once she saw him.
