It had been less than a week after the school trip and Hitoshi could still feel the sting of the stun blast Mai dealt him at the hot spring.
For the school trip is something adults tell their children about in later years. Something that cannot be forgotten easily, be it good memories or bad.
But for Hitoshi, all was well. All the physical pain he had suffered at Mai's hands was worth seeing Meguu, the girl of his dreams, in a bikini. That image had been forever burnt into his mind.
That day he was running errands since his mother had once again gone abroad on her botanist job. He had to take Mai with him to the grocery store shopping.
The Ardonian princess in disguise looked quite fashionable for someone who had only been on Earth for less than three weeks. You could almost say it was instinct, but it was mostly Emiko who helped her pick out some clothes.
She had a loose white T-shirt on with the yellow face of a cartoon cat printed on it. The hem was loosely tucked into her navy torn shorts and her sleeves were loosely folded up. She also wore sneakers.
Mai looked around curiously at all the rows of items in the aisle they were walking through. This was only her second time coming with Hitoshi to buy groceries.
"So you never hunt your own food at all?" she asked.
"Haha, no," replied Hitoshi. "You're the princess here, Mai-san. I would expect you of all people to be handed things on a silver platter."
"Well, I despise that kind of living," said the girl, looking ahead. "It comes with a price. You have to be what is expected of you by your parents."
"Maybe they just wanted what's best for you," said Hitoshi.
"Best for me?" said Mai with a slight glare right back at him. "Or best for the empire?"
There was a silence after that as they walked through the aisle as Hitoshi carried a basket full of groceries.
"I-I'm sorry, Mai-san," said the bespectacled boy, aware that he had inadvertently hurt Mai by reminding her of her traumatic experience back in her world.
The girl kept silent, her head slightly hung as she walked.
"L-Let's go pay for these and we can go," said Hitoshi as he quickened his pace. Mai followed shortly.
After having purchased the items in the basket Hitoshi carried all the paper bags full of food and supplies and walked out of the store with Mai in tow.
"Allow me to help you with that, Hitoshi," said the girl with a small smile.
"N-No thanks, Mai-san," said the young man who was obviously struggling to carry the groceries. "I-I got this..."
Mai sighed and shook her head.
"You idiot," said Mai as she took two of the four bags, smiling at him.
"M-Mai-san," said Hitoshi, whose cheeks where slightly flushed with pink.
"Shall we go?" said the girl.
"Y-Yeah," said Hitoshi as he carried his bags. The two then proceeded to walk home.
Meanwhile in another part of town.
Hanamiya City had its own shopping district for manga, anime, videogames and the like, similar to Akihabara in Tokyo. It was certainly a mecca for any otaku living in the area.
Apart from all the anime and manga shops the district also boasts a number of maid cafés lining up the length of it.
It was broad daylight, and a man and a woman walked along the sidewalk inconspicuously. They did not look Japanese at all.
