Hey Everyone!!

Well this idea was in my head for a while now so I decided to post it. I hope you all enjoy it.

It was not edited, so please don't hold it against me!

-Brody

"The last one" I mumbled, as I folded up the small piece of paper into a crane and put it in the jar with the others. One thousand paper cranes with one thousand promises and devotions of love for the woman I love.

I picked up my leather jacket from the chair at my side and threw it on. I also picked up the jar and headed out of the library. I started getting nervous as I walked down the street, my palms were a little moist so I tightened my grip on the jar.

I exhaled loudly trying to get rid of the tightness in my chest, I made it home and I paused at the door. My heart was racing and my palms were sweaty, I need to calm myself calm. I took a couple deep breaths and opened the door.

"Amber..Baby" I called out, as I walked into our apartment.

"I'm in the bedroom" she answered. I walked into our bedroom and saw Amber sitting on the edge of the bed. She was stunning as usual, Amber is about 5'7 with long brunette hair, she was wearing blue destroyed jeans with a white shirt and grey flat ankle boots and a grey cardigan.

"Here babe" I said, as I thrust the jar into her hands.

"Umm, Brody, what's this??"

"Marry me!" I said. When she didn't say anything I continued. "I know I cant afford a ring yet and I put all my money into my company, but babe in that jar there's one thousand paper cranes with written promises and I intend to keep each one, you've made me so happy, babe, please marry me." I said.

She looked up at me with tears in her eyes. "Brody, I love you. It- it's-but I can't"

My eyes widened as I registered what she said. "No, no, no! What do you mean you can't?" I asked. My heart rate sped up, I felt like it was going to burst right out of my chest.

"Brody, I need more than what you can give" she said.

"Amber, I'm working on it! Can you please give me some time?"

"No Brody, I think I've wasted enough time. I have needs and it's great that you want to get somewhere with your 'company' but you're a dreamer and it's time that you woke up." she said.

She stood up and dropped the jar, the glass shattered everywhere...along with my heart. I fell to my knees and started picking up the pieces. I held some of them in my hand, tightly almost as if I was trying to hold myself together. The glass cut through my skin, but the pain was nothing compared to what I felt inside. Amber walked pass me and grabbed her coat on the way out.

I was jolted out of my memories by my desk phone ringing, I pressed the blue button and had it transferred over to my secretary. That was five years ago, I vowed to never give my heart away only for it to be returned badly damaged. Back then I was a fool, but a fool in love.

- Oh Brody, I truly understand how you feel. Well, my dear readers this is the first chapter to "A Thousand Paper Cranes" I hope you enjoy it.
