Linje Rivers is a Florida attorney who earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida's Frederic G. Levin College of Law in May of 2009. He was a member of the Black Law Students Association, the John Marshall Bar Association, and the Estates and Trust Society, among other associations.

His professional interests include legal aid for indigent citizens, and real estate law. Real estate transactions in the United States are governed by a multitude of federal statutes, state statutes and common law. The legal requirements in one state often differ considerably from those in another state.

An agreement to sell a property is considered a contract, and is a legally binding agreement between the seller and the buyer. There are various types of contracts common to real estate transactions, such as a unilateral contract, in which only one of its parties makes a promise. For example, a seller might give someone an option to buy a property. Under a unilateral contract the seller is obligated to sell if the person decides to go through with the purchase. But the buyer is not obligated to buy.

A type is known as a bilateral contract, which involves two parties who both make promises to the other. A buyer might agree to pay the seller a specific sum for a property in exchange for a promise to convey the title to him or her.

Real estate contracts may also be expressed or implied. In an expressed contract the parties involved state their terms, either verbally or in writing. Most real estate contracts are required to be in writing. In an implied real estate contract, the contract arises because of the actions by, or the relationship or intentions of, the parties involved.

Linje Rivers is currently a Senior Attorney at a government agency. "I am involved in my community," he says, "and I enjoy volunteering as much as possible." He also has a passion for learning. As he knows, learning new things throughout one's lifetime is known to be a way of keeping the mind sharp, as well as keeping up a sense of self-esteem, and leading a fuller, well-rounded life.
