Emerson’s POV
It was the first day of school of my sophomore year in high school and I couldn’t be any happier. Mainly because I’m no longer a freshman. Even though I was super excited to catch up with friends because cheer completely took up my summer I tried to act as calm as possible because I mean it’s school and no one really likes school. I got to my school and got my schedule. I went to my locker and then headed straight to first period.
I almost leaped for joy when I saw my best friend Rosie Sullivan sitting there with her foot propped up in a seat she was saving for me. I took the seat and Rosie and I started catching up on our gossip right away.
“So Emerson Falkland, I’m surprised to see you took time out of your busy life to attend school.” Rosie said.
“Shut up Rosie my life isn’t that busy.” I retorted.
“Oh I beg to differ Emmy Jay, I haven’t seen you all summer and what can I blame that on? Oh right, you becoming cheer captain. Congrats slut!”
“Thanks whore but if we’re being honest I wish I would have never gotten it because it’s so much work and I don’t know if I can handle this until we graduate.”
I suddenly realized that Rosie was staring at something just past me. I looked over my shoulder and there he was, just inches away from me. Mr. Cool, Calm, and Collected. I had never seen him before but there was no doubt that he was attractive. He was tall with some muscle, chocolatey brown curly hair and piercing green emerald eye. I snapped out of my trans when I heard Rosie talking.
“What do you want Styles?” She said.
“Whoa, whoa, lose the tude Rose, just trying to make new friends on my first day of junior year at a new school.” He said with his attention directed towards me.
“Hi, I’m Harry.” He said with a deep, raspy voice.
“Emerson.” I said with a smile.
He starts to say something but Rosie quickly interjects.
“Go sit down Styles.”
As soon as she said that the tardy bell rang and Mr. Kowalski, our AP English teacher started calling roll.
“McCartney Falkland.”
I rolled my eyes; he knew I went by Emerson.
“It’s Emerson, Jeff.”
He glared at me.
“It’s Mr. Kowalski, Emerson.”
I suddenly felt a pair of eyes burning into the side of my face. I turned to see that the stare belonged to Harry.
“McCartney?” He mouthed with a stupid smirk on his face.
I rolled my eyes and slumped back in my chair and tried to drown out Mr. Kowalski as he went on and on about what he expects this year out of his class and all the rules.
The next three classes went on just like first period did. All the teachers telling us their expectations and going over rules and procedures. I also noticed that Harry was in my fourth period Anatomy and Physiology class.
Fourth period was finally over and now it was time for lunch. Thank God because I always hated the first day of school. It’s always boring and all you do is sit there. I found my lunch table quickly and sat down with my friends Rosie, Katie, Jude, Lily, and Priscilla. The second I sat down I heard that deep, raspy voice again. I turned around to see him clutching his brown paper lunch bag and had a chance to see what he was wearing, black skinny jeans, low cut white v neck shirt that revealed a chest tattoo, leather jacket, and some desert boots. He looked like the typical bad boy.
“McCartney, Rosie.” He said snapping me out of my train of thought.
I could tell me and this guy were not going to get along very well.
“It’s Emerson.” I said through gritted teeth.
“Calm down McCartney.” He said with a slight chuckle.
“You can’t sit with us Styles.” Rosie interrupted.
“Didn’t plan on it, I’m going to sit with your brother Thomas, Rosie Posie, see ya.”
I made sure he was out of hearing range before I said anything.
“What is up with that guy not calling people by their names?” I asked.
“He did call you by your name Emerson.” Priscilla interrupted.
“Not in the mood Priscilla.” I said and shot her a glare and she rolled her eyes.
The rest of the day went on slowly until there was an announcement towards the end of sixth period.
“All varsity cheerleaders please report to the athletics department as soon as sixth period ends for a brief meeting. All varsity cheer leaders.”
“Great.” I mumbled to myself.
The brief meeting was just that, brief. It was about how we need to advertise for the annual back to school dance that we have every year to support the cheer team.
By now seventh period had already started and I walked in late. And who is the first person I see as I walk through the door. Harry Styles himself with that stupid smirk on his face.
“Emerson, why are you late?” Mrs. Harris said.
“Sorry Mrs. Harris I was at that cheer meeting. Is it okay if I make a quick announcement it will only take a minute?”
She nodded.
“Okay so as most of you know we have a back to school dance every year to raise money for the cheer team and as most of you know usually no one goes so it would be really great if you all could come this Friday night to support the cheer team. The dance starts at six and it’s five dollars for admission. There will be concessions and dress casual. Please come out and support the cheer team I promise this dance won’t be as bad as the past years.”
I looked at Mrs. Harris and thanked her and took the only seat left in the classroom. The seat that was in front of Harry.
He leaned in and whispered in my ear and I could hear the smirk he had with every word he said.
“Can’t wait to see you at the dance this Friday McCartney.”
