Numb

We stopped at the corner of the street before the Reapers hideout. We needed to make a plan. Mason was ready for anything. "Alright, you two just walk in through the front door guns blazing. Be sure not to die but distract them enough to give me time to save Alexis." He told us. "But I can't even handle one of them." I complained. "How can I handle an entire hideout?" "I said distract, not beat. You can survive as long as you take cover and shoot randomly." He explained. But I barely know how to control my powers. I can't. But before I could continue to doubt myself, I remembered. Oh wait. Didn't I absorb Emma's power too? That means I have mind control and telekinesis. I should try it out. "Lets go" Emma whispered to me. She went around the corner. I followed her. The building that we saw looked like a horizontal cross-section of a skyscraper. "So we walk in through the front door?" She asked. "No, well we do, but we do it stealth." I said. "Why?" "Because I have an idea, go with it." I told her. She opened one of the doors really slowly. We saw about 20 of those ugly skull headed reapers. "This might go wrong." I told her. "What? Then don't do what you're thinking of doing." She said. "Nah I got this." I insisted. Here goes. I stared at one of the more powerful looking skulls. Cause a scene and make a distraction. He then held his Assault Rifle with one hand and aimed the other with what seemed to be some dark magic looking power. I guessed I couldn't steal stolen powers because I didn't have that. He shot all his friends and shot magic randomly. So it does work. At least it did, for about 2 minutes. He was immediately decapitated by a skull that had red horns. He then said in a raspy, low voice that seemed demonic, "The Queen is here." I looked to the opposite door and Emma looked scared. It seems she hadn't really faced the reapers before. "The Grim Reaper..." She whispered. "What? Who is that?" I asked, trying to have the same volume so as to not blow our cover. "The leader of the reapers, that one with the red horn." She motioned towards him. "Yeah, I noticed." I said. He slowly turned his head, and that was when I realized, he saw me. But instead of being cliché and yelling "get them!" To his henchmen, I saw him mouth the words "get out of here." Am I crazy? Or is he trying to help me? I didn't say anything to Emma because she would think I'm being retarded and tell me to stop playing around. But I saw it. And I saw it right. Another skull noticed him looking this way and looked too, he called the others. "Sick 'em!" He yelled in his own demonic voice. The others realized that guns were useless so they threw them out and took out swords. What are they? Medieval? Those must have been the ones without powers because the others were using all the powers they had. Emma was scared, but she didn't back off. She raised her hand and made a fist, which crushed all the swords in view. Nice thinking. We both took cover, because we both knew we couldn't handle the reapers with powers. Mary, even with her glow-based searching powers, could also talk to us with her mind. "Mary, is Mason done yet?" Emma asked. "No, he just got to the room." She answered. "He said to distract them for 5 more minutes." "Ok." I got ready.

*Mason's POV:after plan*
Alexis and Adam went around the corner to distract them. I went around the block so I could enter from the back. I saw a fire escape, so I used it. I waited for the signal so I could go inside the building, and when I heard the shots and demonic screams, I assumed that was it. I entered, and found what seemed to be a little girl's room. Damn, the old times. Everything was old and dusty, but not decayed. I found the kitchen, which was rusty instead, the sink didn't work, but that was not what I came for. I took a medium sized knife to be stealthy with. I opened the apartment door and went into the hallway. "Mary, where's the room?" I asked. "Top floor. Center door." She responded. "But there's no roof over the top floor." I said. "Which makes this harder." She said back. "Ugh." I went up the stairs and opened the door. It's scary to be inside a building where the sun shines, but the sky is brown because of the pollution. I walked down the hallway and found the center door. I opened it slowly and saw two big reapers. "A and E are asking how much longer, Mason." I heard Mary say. "Gimme 5 minutes." I told her. "Ok." She said. I loaded my gun with power repellant bullets, which years of fighting conduits taught me how to do. I walked silently up to the reaper on the right, grabbed him, and sliced his neck. The other reaper noticed, and as if it was by reflex, I took out my gun and shot him right in the eye. But being a reaper, it didn't kill him. Being a power repellant bullet, it knocked him out. Alexis saw me, and weakly said "Help me..." "I will" i told her. I picked her up. With our faces close together, she whispered in my ear "Im...numb...I can't...feel anything..." "Don't worry, it'll be over soon." I assured her. I carried her down the building and fire escape. "Mary, tell Adam and Emma that they can leave." I said. "They left 3 minutes ago. Somebody else is distracting them for you..." She said.
What?

*Adam's POV: 5 minutes ago*
I got ready ready for 5 minutes of armageddon. I was hiding behind a corner while getting ready, and Emma was behind me. A reaper blew up the corner and I fell on my back. I looked up, and saw the reaper aiming his hand, bottling up some kind of acid, getting ready to shoot me with it. As I got ready to die, I saw the reaper's head be blown into little pieces. Brain matter fell on both me and Emma, who said "ugh" with a face of disgust. The body fell, and I realized that right behind it, the guy who killed the reaper was none other than the Grim Reaper. We're fucked. At least Mason has Alexis. The Grim Reaper kneeled down in front of me to talk to me up close. "Why are you helping us?" I asked him. In a demonic voice he said, "My name...is Ryan Fullbringer." "Dad...?" I asked, too shocked to move or even react properly. "Yes, now I don't want to kill you, and reinforcements are coming, so leave." He told me. "But-" I tried to argue before he cut me off. "No buts, I know your friend is up there, and I'll distract the reinforcements until he is able to leave. So go." He said in a fatherly tone. "I have to help." I told him, a bit scared to argue with him, being the Grim Reaper. His eyes turned a brighter shade of red, his armor and skull helmet turned black, and he screamed "GO!" We got up as fast as we could and ran, and I looked back as I left my father, who I hadn't even seen before the Hurricane.
