Long time no writing, huh? I'm sorry that I haven't updated. I've had
no motivation because only three people voted for the last chapter,
but I was reading some of the lovely comments on that chapter and
decided to write a chapter. The School Certificate is coming up so I
won't be able to write much, but I'll write when I can. If you don't
think this deserves a vote PLEASE leave a comment saying how I can
improve it. Please excuse the lack of control over tense; second-
person view messes with my head. Also, I changed the name to "Him".
It's easier to say.
I dedicated this chapter to writingisbelieving because she was helping to promote this story and as I was reading through the Chapter 6 comments I realised I never acknowledged her for that. So thank you, Phoenix!
(just a heads up before I write the actual chapter, there is talk
about God not being real. I apologise if this offends you. It is
strictly the view of the respective characters; I'm a Christian)
Him - Chapter 7
You've been here eight weeks too long. White walls loom over you, threatening to swallow you and take all memory of your existence back into oblivion where it belongs. The ominous ticking of a clock pulses throughout your prison and through the bolted door's window you can see two white eyes staring, unblinking, back at you. You pull the thin sheet up over your head and pray they go away. But in your heart you know that if anyone is up there, they probably think you're guilty too and will not help you. That's why this is happening; you're sure of it.
And it that moment, at eight years old, you come to the realisation that there is no God. He would have surely protected Hannah and you from the other Him.
The door opens and you scream, diving out from beneath the sheet and scrambling beneath the metal bed. You peek out and see Dr Forsyth. Slowly, you emerge from your hiding spot and stare silently at him.
"Good morning, Marnie," he says cheerily, apparantly oblivious to your demenour, "How are we feeling?"
You resist the urge to tell him that you are unable to read minds and therefore do not know how he is feeling. You instead nod.
"We're going to run a few tests. Tell me, how many fingers am I holding up?" he asks, holding up three fingers. You try to tell him but no sound comes out, so you hold up three of your own fingers and nod.
"Very good, Marnie," he does this a few more times until deciding that your vision is not the problem, "Now, tell me about Him."
You stare blankly at him until he leaves. You close your eyes, relieved, but when you open them, you realise Dr Forsyth has returned. He's facing away from you, he's lost a substantial amount of weight, he's grown a few centimetres. Then he turns around and you find yourself staring, transfixed, into white eyeballs set into chalky, sickly skin. It's Him. You try to scream but, like the pathetic being you are, the sound is weak and barely audible. He steps closer, the sound of each resounding ominous footstep echoing through your ears. Tears rain down your face and His hands are at your throat, tightening until you cannot breathe. The door opens and the real Dr Forsyth steps in. He cries out in shock and runs to you, prying His hands off your neck. As the world fades to black, you smile as a thanks.
The world brightens into a blinding white and you hear voices.
"Suicide attempt... Strangulation... Smiling..." the words float through the door and taunt you. The door promptly opens and you shut your eyes.
"Marnie, you're awake," Dr Forsyth breathes, obviously relieved.
"Where is He?" you whisper timidly.
It takes a second, but he realised who you're talking about, "Marnie, did He do this to you?"
You nod.
"Marnie, no one was there. You did this to yourself. He doesn't exist."
"That's impossible!" you cry, outraged.
"Shh, calm down. I'm not saying you meant to kill Hannah -"
"I didn't kill Hannah," you whimper pathetically.
He leaves after what seems like hours of explaining the truth. You cry yourself to sleep and when you wake a shadow covers you.
"You can't hurt me!" you scream at the viscious white eyes, "You're not even real!"
He crumbles into nothing and you realise the magnitude of what you've just said. You've just admitted that you killed Hannah.
XO
Okay, explanation: I changed the girl's name because I actually met someone named Sapphire and I didn't like them having the same name because it felt weird and they're nothing alike. I also changed bits in previous chapters so now Hannah had a boyfriend and her marks at school were slipping. It ties into the story later. I'm going to update again today. PROMISE!
Again, if you don't think this deserves a vote, please tell me how to improve it.
