"Heeeere kitty kitty kitty," a distorted voice was calling out to me.

I was currently in an empty computer lab—next to Mr. Kade's classroom ironically—and huddled beneath one of the desks crumpled in between two CPUs.

A part of me wanted to burst out and teach the guy what it meant to mess with a 1 and her followers.

The other part of me remembered how he had come into the locker room, and all that he'd managed to do in the few minutes after his appearance.

Or not really come 'into' the bathroom I should say.

The guy was already in the locker room with us.

He must have been in another shower stall when I came in, I thought. It was the only thing that made sense. The only people that entered after me were Gabriel and Luke, who came into the stall with me, and then Greg and some of his people but I was sure that one of them said he was watching the door. In that case, no one should have been able to get past him to get inside or outside.

Then again, I didn't have much faith in Greg's followers as good bodyguards.

The first thing the masked guy did was laugh and speak in that weird mechanically distorted voice. "The gross out: the sigh of a severed head tumbling down a flight of stairs." He paused and the deep, bass-like sound of pounding echoed around the room, from where I couldn't tell but I didn't think it was anyone knocking on the locker room door. He continued, "It's when the lights go out and something green and slimy splatters against your arm."

And then the lights when out all by themselves.

Something slimy landed on me and, by reflex, I caught and gripped it. An angry yell rent the air as Gabriel cursed "OY MOTHERFUCKIN DAMNIT!" I only barely held in the contents of my stomach as the lights turned back on and I saw what I was holding.

A grey cat, so mangled that it was barely recognizable, and a small piece of it's collar was still attached. I easily made out the "Kar" but the rest of the name was cut off.

That wasn't what made me gag though; it was Mauricio. Wil had buried the dark gray cat we'd found in Luke's locker, but I was 100% sure that, if we went to where Wil buried it, we'd only find a pile of dirt. This was the same dead feline. The smell was even worse though, and I now had some of it's blood and the stench clinging to my clothing. I just had to wear a white skirt today.

But I knew who's pet it was already. The letters K-A-R- and it being a dark gray cat? Had I been thinking clearly earlier—and not focused on the Academy Guys being back—I'd have remembered that one of my followers had been looking for his missing pet.

He'd told me while I was driving him home after his tutoring session. Yes, Grady. The same Grady I'd set up with Jensen this morning.

So did all of this stuff have something to do with Grady? Why his cat? Her name was Karma and Grady had shown me a picture of her that I'd absentmindedly glanced at it on the way to his home. My mind had been stuck on Wil in the hospital and Karen's nearly catatonic state during that drive.

Damnit! If I couldn't protect a follower's cat for Pete's sakes.....what good was I anymore?

The voice sounded closer to me as it laughed—it sounded so creepy coming out mechanically—"You can't hide from me forever kitty. Don't you like how I play with cats? Let's play."

The school bell rang signifying class was changing over and only a moment later the doorknob was jiggling, and the door being pulled open. The door that connected to Mr. Kade's room.

I jumped up, fearing that this guy would hurt Mr. Kade too. I don't know why I liked the guy, but he was a dang good teacher and I didn't want him getting hurt on my conscience.

His surprised eyes caught mine as my head swiveled all around trying to catch a glimpse of the cat killer.

But he was gone.

"Sang?" Mr. Kade's concerned voice called to me. I ignored him as I raced around the room checking between CPUs, under tables, and even the windows; the guy had to still be here. He just had to!

Mr. Kade came closer, "Sang, what's wrong?"

I looked up to him, a thought springing to mind, heart pounding so loud it felt like it would crack my rib cage......What if it's him?
