Chapter 1: Introductions

Confession #1: New apartment, new job, new atmospehere. It's nothing like having your own and starting over fresh and new. No drama, bad memories can be left behind and I can finally breathe. Living in a past like mine can be more than a little uncomfortable. No one should ever have to endure abuse in any way but getting away is all about new begginnings. I was moved into my new apartment not far from Rocqi and Mark so I could be close and still help out with the twins.. I let my top down on my corvette and put my Micheal Khor shades on. I checked myself over in my mirror one time and pulled out of the complex parking garage. I was heading south bound on my way to Starbucks up the street from my job. I was a writer but blogs kept me grounded. It was my way of helping others through a situation that I have been through. Kind of like a break through for myself. I felt that all of my dirty laundry needed to be aired out and that being the best way. I make my way into Starbucks and get my usual. "Good Morning. Welcome to Starbucks. How may I help you today?" I smiled. "Morning. I would like 2 large Caramel Frappacinos, extra foam and caramel and 2 Chocolate Chip nut muffins please." She rung me up. "$6.25" I handed her my money and made my way to work. As I walk in I make my way to my desk and wait for Airec to pop up in my off like he does every morning. "5,4,3,2-" There was a knock on my door. "Come in Airec!" I saw him dressed in a brown hat,a white button down shirt,sleeveless jean jacket,a brown bowtie khakis rolled up at the bottom,a brown leather belt and brown and tan Sperrys. "Now how in the hell did you know it was me?" I shook my head and held out a cup of coffee and a muffin for him to grab. He chukeled and accepted the items. He took a seat and propped his feet up on my desk. I looked at that nigga like he was crazy. I pushed his feet down. "Whats up your ass today?" I cut my eyes at him. "Don't you have work to do or something?" He shook his head as he texted away on his phone. "Nope. So I'm here to keep you company." he said cheerfully. I sighed and took a sip of my coffee.

Someone knocked on my door again and opened it. "Morning Lai'lanni. Airec." I look up to see my boss. "Morning Mrs.Gates." I said with a smile as me and Airec stood to shake her hand. I gave Airec a look telling him to leave and he finally caught on to it. I shook my head and gestured for her to have a seat. "I would like for you to meet Chance Miller." I came in eye contact with a set of soft grey eyes with soft flects of blue. I finally took his hand and found a way to speak. "Lai'lanni Rodriguez. Nice to meet you." I must admit the man smelled good and looked fine. "Pleasures all mine." he said with a smirk that can make your panties flood. Mrs.Gates clears her throat. "Chance is going to be our new creative designs director." I smiled trying not to show how much of an effect he has on little ole me, so i did what any other woman would have done in my case. I sat my ass down. Mrs.Gates continued. "If you don't mind I would greatly appreciate you helping him get in the groove of things around here and help him get settled. Oh and meet me in my office before lunch." I nodded and with that she turned and left out the door.

I nodded for him to take a seat. "So what brought you to Atlanta. I'm only assuming your not from here." I said as looked down at my computer and ate my muffin. "You assumed correct. I'm from Richmond,Virginia. Needed a new change of scenery. Lived there all my life. So I took Thomas & Gates up on their offer. What about you? " I swallowed my mouth full of coffee and shook my head. "Hanalulu,Hawaii. Born there, stayed til I was abt 7, then moved to San Jose with my parents and moved to Jackson,Mississippi for college and just recently moved out here for a fresh start." I have no idea why I just basically told my whole damn life to someone I don't even know. I throw away my left over muffin and grab my coffee and head towards the door and nodded for him to follow me.

Before long he was in his own office and I was heading to my meeting with Mrs.Gates. I knocked then entered. "Hey Lai'lanni. Is Chance all settled in?" I nodded and took a seat. "He's settled fine. I'm sure he is finding comfort here very easily." She nodded. "Good, good. I called you in here today because I want to hire you full time and offer you a higher salary and position. Our head columnist just turned in her transfer and is heading to our other office. I would really love for you to be in her spot. You don't have to answer now but I would love an answer at the end of the week." She had her hands folded as she stared at me. I was pretty much speechless. "I will let you know in the morning. Thank you so much." I made my way out of her office and to mine. I had to tell Rocqi and Airec about this.
