Everything was dark. I knew nothing, I wished for nothing, nothing was there.Time didn't exist in this place, so I knew not how long I had been there. I spotted a light in the distance. Neither I nor the light seemed to move, yet we came closer together. As the light enveloped me, warmth spread through my limbs and thoughts entered my mind.Where am I? What is this light?

My eyes flew open and I took a gasping breath only to choke on the dirt that encased me. My fingers scrabbled at it, breaking through to the surface. I coughed the dirt out of my mouth as I came free of the shallow grave. Swaying, I pushed myself to my feet. I felt dazed and my thoughts were foggy. Picking a direction, I headed unsteadily through the trees.

The stars twinkled brightly against the midnight sky. The only other source of light was the claw-scratch moon. The trees were skinny and far apart, but the forest floor was crowded with brambles and fallen leaves.

I stumbled as my bare feet hit the hard pavement of a road. I looked up as a glaring light rushed towards me. It reminded me of the warm light of my dream. I waited for it to engulf me again, maybe it would take me away from the cold, dark world. Suddenly, a horn blasted long and loud against my sensitive ears. I shut my eyes and clapped my hands over my ears, stumbling backwards. My long, strawberry-blond hair whipped my face as something rushed past. I opened my eyes just in time to see a car speeding away.

I gazed after it for a while. I don't know how long. My shadow grew bigger and darker. Footsteps sounded behind me. I jumped and looked over my shoulder.

The woman had dark blond hair that was short in the back and long, with curled ends, in the front. She wore a simple black dress, and for a moment it looked like she had the eyes of a snake. I blinked in surprise and it was gone. I must have imagined it.

"Are you ok?" She asked.

I turned towards her, but said nothing. Was I ok? I wasn't sure.

She tried again. "My name is Madusa. What's yours?"

I frowned as I searched my memory. I found only one word. "Tora." I said, my throat still raw.

"Tora? That's a nice name." Madusa said, smiling softly. "Can you tell me what happened to you, Tora?"

I looked down at myself. My whole body was caked with dirt and I wore a torn spring dress, over which I wore a bloodied white jacket. Looking up at her again, I replied, "I don't know."

This is my first time publishing anything here on Wattpad. Writing is a hobby for me, but I do wish to progress. I would love any constructive criticism and/or encouragement.  I hope to update this once a week. Hopefully.

Thank you. I hope you enjoy.
