Enchanted

I glanced in the mirror one last time. I wanted to make sure I looked at least somewhat decent for tonight. I grabbed the bright red lipstick from my purse and applied a little more. Red lipstick was my favorite makeup essential; it's not everyday I get to wear it.

"Thank you so much for letting me borrow one of your dresses" I said to Taylor. Taylor was my best friend and she was gorgeous. Taylor was the type of girl every guy wanted and every girl was jealous of. She had short, blonde hair that framed her face perfectly and beautiful blue eyes.

"No problem." she smiled as we headed out the door to the party.

...

While riding in the limo to the party, Taylor was jabbering on and on about her dad's company and how she plans to work for them someday. It's the reason why we're heading to this high esteemed party. I didn't fit in with this crowd but Taylor had begged me to go so she wouldn't be alone.

When we arrived at the grand hotel where the party was taking place, I was astonished by the massive building. I have lived in New York City all my life and had passed buildings like this everyday. Never, however, had I been in any of them. And now here I was, about to walk in.

I step out of the limo first, followed by Taylor in her tight fitting red dress. She looked gorgeous in it and I hoped I looked half as good as she did. I walked closer to the entrance but didn't dare to go in without her. My heart started to pound fast as I realized that this was about to happen. I didn't know who I would meet or what to even expect.

"I'm coming" Taylor groaned as she tried walking up the stairs in her stilettos. I told her not to wear such extravagant shoes but she didn't listen. I was wearing a pretty simple light purple gown that I borrowed of hers with some very low heels.

When she makes it up the stairs she smiles and asks "Are you ready?"
"Are you sure I look okay Taylor?", I asked just hoping that she didn't say I appeared to bad.

"Abi, you look absolutely gorgeous.", she said in a calming and reassuring voice. "Now common and let's go."
I smile back and grabbed her hand as we walked in together.

...

The inside of the hotel was more elaborate than anything I could have imagined. I thought Taylor's penthouse in the city was fancy, but no. This was fancy.

First off it smelled delicious and I could see waiter after waiter walking past me asking guests if they'd like to try whatever it was they had on their tray to eat or drink. There was multiple paintings around every corner and on every wall. The floors were shiny and the chandelier was sparkling in the middle of a dance floor in the ballroom. It was unlike anything I've ever seen.
"Oh!" Taylor grabbed my arm suddenly jumping up and down.

"What?" I ask concerned.

"That's one of the cute guys I've seen working in my dad's office!" She pointed across a crowd of people. " He's only two years older than me. I'm going to say hi." she announced walking off. That girl was fearless. I smiled to myself thinking about all the crazy things we've done since meeting when we were eight years old; most of the crazy things being her ideas.

A waiter walked by with some fancy looking drinks and I grabbed it hoping it's not alcohol. It turned out it wasn't, as I sipped whatever it was from the crystal glass.

I held my drink tightly between my fingers and look around aimlessly at everything surrounding me. So pretty and spectacular. Nothing was ordinary, except the people. All around everyone was in business suits or black dresses. For sure Taylor and I stood out in our colorful dresses, not that Taylor would mind; she loved to stand out.
