Tick. Tick. Tick.

Today has been an extremely long and exhausting day. Don't get me wrong, I've only been here a month and I love my job.Working at a coffee shop in the middle of the beautiful city of New York definitely has its perks, but it also gets really busy. I love the chaos, but some days are just more tiring than others.

People come in and out, all going in different paths, everyone is busy and has their own lives. And in the short time that I have been here I always find myself wondering where they are going, what they do for a living, where they are coming from, why New York City?

It is Saturday  and almost the end of the last shift of the day which means it's getting close to closing time, I start to go around the café, wiping off tables and countertops, sweeping the floor and making sure the costumers inside are enjoying what they got.

By the time and I am finished cleaning it is 10:00 and everyone has left except for my coworker and newly formed friend Elizabeth (or Liz for short).

"Bye Louis, stay safe, do you need help with anything before I leave?" She asks.

"No, everything is mostly done, I should be fine, have a good night, I'll see you tomorrow." I smile.

"Ok,See ya!" She smiles back and I wave to her as she walks out of the café doors and into the busy city that's never sleeps.

I take one look around the large coffee shop and make sure everything is in its place. The fairy lights all around the coffee shop and the coffee colored walls give it a warm and cozy feeling.

The pictures of coffee beans and city lights at night with the dark red and black color of the couches and seats, just tie the whole place together. I love working here and feel extremely grateful that I have this amazing job that is going to help pay for my school, that I am about to start on Monday.

I go back into the break room and open up my locker getting all of my belongings together and taking off my apron, that all of the workers are required to wear, and hang it up, closing the locker afterwards. I pull on my jacket and grab the keys to lock up , walking out of the break room and to the glass doors of the café, taking a final look around admiring the simplistic beauty of it, I open the door and step out into the fall air.

I begin the journey back to my apartment, getting on the bus that will take me home. I really need to get a car but with already having to pay for school, it's just too expensive, also I get exercise from it so I never have to do any extra activities. I'd say that I'm in pretty good shape, my pudgy stomach and big thighs are my biggest flaws though, but oh well. I don't have anyone to impress.

Once I get off the bus, I take the five minute walk to my apartment looking at all of the pretty Christmas lights that people have already started to set up. Most people complain about people getting ready for Christmas too early but I love it, it brings a warm feeling when I think about it.

After I arrive at my door and unlock it I am welcomed by the smell of pumpkin spice and the warmth of my cozy apartment. I take off my shoes and work clothes which includes black skinny jeans, because we have to wear black pants and I love how comfy skinny jeans are, and a black polo shirt. I pull out my favorite plaid pajama pants that are super soft and fuzzy and put on a plain grey pullover. I am super hungry, so I decide to make some ramen noodles.

Hah, college life.

Since I am about to be a freshman at New York School of Interior Design, I decide to get all of the paperwork and supplies I will need all together so I don't have to worry about it tomorrow.

Before moving here my mom and sisters did not want me to leave, but they knew how bad I wanted this, so they held back their feelings and worries to let me go, so I could take this wonderful opportunity to experience life on my own. Although, It's pretty weird living in a big city by myself and I can only hope that I will make some new friends at my new school.

I didn't have many friends back home because I was rather nerdy and nerdy looking, before I started wearing contacts and found a different style, that fits me better.

I was ok with not having friends though because I already had my mom and sisters, plus I knew that there was no point in making friendships if I would end up leaving them once college came around anyways so I just kept to myself at school, focused on studying hard and making good grades, which helped me get here and accepted, in the first place.

After I finish getting all of the stuff together that I will need for Monday I feel very tired from the long day at work and decide to get ready for bed so I go into the bathroom and wash my face and brush my teeth, before laying down in my cozy bed, that I had all to myself.

I can't sleep in the quiet so I go to my music app and play my "sleep" playlist, the song "This" by Ed Sheehan comes on and I snuggle in close to my comforter and soon drift off into a blissful sleep, dreaming about my upcoming school and what could become of my new life in one of the biggest city in the U.S.  ......

New York City.
