The underground

Chapter 4

This day has been very eventful may I say.

"Journey, when Dane is done showing you a little bit around for the day I need you to come back here okay?" Ulysses turns to Dane. "You make sure she shows up here unharmed. You hear?"

"Yes sir." Dane replies.

"Then get on and do a little explaining and learning for the day and be back when the sun sets. Okay?"

"Gotcha."

Dane leads me out the door and we start walking to who knows where. he turns to me suddenly. "Can we stop at my house real quick? I just got done working out so I'm a little sweaty."

House? We only had living quarters, And what is "working out"? Oh well I'll ask him. "Sure!" I respond.

"By the way.... what exactly is a house?  And what does working out mean?" I ask Dane.

He chuckles under his breath. "This is going to be fun. A house is where a family lives together. Working out is when we go somewhere called a gym that has a bunc of things we can use to make our bodies stronger and fit."

I analyze what he just said before telling him i understood him. He was smiling so I asked him why he was smiling like that.

"Oh haha I just think that little scrunch in your eyebrows you make when you think is...... oh never mind here's my house." I saw Dane's face go red as he opens the door to his house.

I hear a woman call from within the house somewhere. "Dane! Is that you?"

"Yes mother!" Dane yells back. A woman comes through from the house and walks up to Dane.

"Mother, this is Journey. She's.... uh.... new here." Dane tells his  mother. I give a small little wave and smile.

His mother smiles at me and then surprisingly engulfs me in a hug. I've never gotten affection before so this was nice. In a weird sort of way.

"Journey, what a pretty name. Well, make yourself at home and if you need anything we'll always be here." Dane's mom smiles at me then whispers something in his ear. His face immediately goes red.

"Mom! Its not like that! But........ don't worry i will." Dane softly smiles before saying, "We're going upstairs and then leaving again."

"Okay dear just make sure you're home by sunset!" She calls after us.

Dane walks upstairs and I follow slowly after him. We walk into this small room and Dane grabs some things then walks to the bathroom attached to it. "You can sit on that bed and I'm going to take a shower and change real quick. So just wait."

After that, he disappears and I look around where I am. The room is a dark blue. There is a large window in the far wall with a short wooden box with small things separating it into sections and in those sections were books. I crouch down to look at them. We don't really have books in The Underground so all of these were very different to me. The Fault in our Stars, The House of the Scorpion, Paper Towns, Divergent,  along with many many many others.

Dane walks out wearing jeans and a t shirt his hair is slightly wet as it flops on his forehead, its cute. He smiles at me. "Were you looking at my books?"

I smile back. "Yes actually, we didn't have many books in The Underground. All of these are new to me."

"Would you like to read one? I would be more than glad to let you borrow one." He suggests to me.

"Actually, I would love to take you up on that offer. But maybe tomorrow or something? Just so I don't have to carry it all day. After all it is only," I look at my Time Capsule in my wrist. "About 1:00. We have allot of the day left."

Dane grinned that signature smile, "Sounds like a plan to me. Are you ready to go exploring with me?"

I let a huge grin escape my lips. "Ready as I'll ever be."
