She looked at herself in the mirror. Even after applying the rich layer of makeup the bags under her eyes were still visible. She felt empty. Mouse had spent the night crying again, crying her self to sleep in the end. The insomnia hadn't been helping. Her parents had been fighting all summer, and Mouse was surprised her parents didn't hear her loud sobs. She checked the time. Shit, she would miss her bus.
As Mouse scrambled onto the cramped three seater she saw the twins. She quickly grabbed a seat next to them.
"How was your summer?" Asked Lisa.
"Uneventful" lied Mouse, "how was yours? Which exotic country did you go to this summer?"
"Italy" replied Tina, rolling her eyes.
"I've got some great pictures though!"Tina got her phone out and showed Mouse several pictures of Rome and the twins and the family and not of Rome. Mouse wanted to go to Rome so badly she wanted to get tanned. Mouse had pale skin that made her look like she was about to vomit. Maybe when she was older she could go with Tina. Tina was her best friend after all. They had been since the beginning of year seven
As they finished showing her the last of the photos, the school bus rolled into the drive of Grasshoppers Secondary School.
