As Marie O’ Doherty walked up the aisle towards her future husband Thomas O’ Brian, she began to have flashbacks to her childhood.
It began when she had to move from Kerry to Cork at the age of 13. She had to move away from all her best friends and move to St. Mary’s Convent. On her first day she walked to school with her neighbours the O’ Brian’s. They were Jenny aged 16, Harry aged 14 and Thomas aged 13. Thomas and Marie found they had a lot in common and soon became best friends and were inseparable. They spent nearly everyday together and as the years passed they spent more and more time together. They were always partners for projects and always studied together. Five days before Marie’s sixteenth, Thomas confessed his feelings for Marie and she confirmed that she felt the same. Thomas then presented her with a necklace with a small diamond studded heart. It felt right to be together due to the fact that they were best friends and they had so much in common. On the day of Marie’s eighteenth party it was so obvious that this was true love and that each had given the other their hearts. Near the end of the party everyone was dancing to the music when suddenly it stopped and a spotlight shone down on top of Marie. She turned around just as Thomas walked towards her and dropped on one knee. He held out a small black box and revealed a ring with a huge diamond. Marie’s eyes began to well up and she was speechless. She dropped down onto her knees and kissed Thomas. She smiled at him and asked “Does that answer your question?” Everyone cheered as Thomas and Marie stood up and ventured to the middle of the floor to have a couples dance.
Today Marie was getting married at the church of Immaculate Conception in Blarney, Co. Cork to her childhood sweetheart Thomas. Today she was to become Marie O’ Brian.
