Its no shocker that for the next 3 days we were unpacking and arranging the house. We were finally on our few last boxes and would be done soon enough. I was on my last box for my room that just had small miscellaneous things. I reached my hand in to get the last thing and pulled out a small old teddy bear.
"Now what the fu-" I was confused because I don't remember packing this.
"I put it there. It was in a box with things from elementary, its the one Ace got you." My mom walked in my room and sat down at the end of my bed. Looking down at the teddy bear the memory started coming back to me.
"Happy Birthday!" Ace ran up to me with his tiny arms spread wide to give me a hug, I gave him a toothy grin and let go of my my moms hand to give my best friend a hug.
"I got you something," Ace pulled off his lightning McQueen backpack and bent down to zip it open, he reached down and pulled out a small beige teddy bear.
"Oh my god!" I squealed and grabbed the teddy bear and hugged it tightly.
"What do you say Irene?" My mom came up behind me and knelt down to our level.
"Thank you Ace!" I gave him a smile as I continued looking down to my teddy bear. We had started a unit on animals and for some reason I had picked up an obsession with bears.
"His name is Grizz, like the grizzly bear!" Ace smiled and pointed to newly named teddy bear, "Grizz..I like it." I sighed and hugged the bear before putting it in my backpack and leaving its little head sticking out. Ace grabbed my hand and started pulling me towards our classroom and I turned and waved goodbye to my mom.
"Wow its been so long since I've seen this bear," I smiled at the memory oh how times were much more simple and fun back then.
"I overheard your conversation with Romina, you don't have to feel bad its normal for people to grow apart but you and Ace will be fine. Your friendship has always been so strong," My mom smiled at me. I put the bear down next to my pillow and sighed.
"Mom we were like 11, I wouldn't have such high hopes. He's probably completely different now." I crossed my arms over my chest, for some reason just talking about us left me uneasy. I had abandoned my best friend and somehow he was going to be okay with that? I doubt it. After I had moved away we did talk consistently but soon enough we would miss each others calls or I'd forget to write back. The last time we talked I don't even remember much, I knew Ace was different but my little pea brain didn't ask him about it I just remember having to hang up because it was getting late.
"I don't know about all that, you guys just fit so well anyways I'm going to finish up my room." My mom walked out after she walked out my phone rang. I looked and saw Dylan had texted me. I laughed as I saw his message and texted a reply.
My eyes widened at the short amount of time to get ready, I ran to my moms room asking for permission.
"You just met this guy are you sure?" My mom looked worried.
