Beep. Beep. Beep.
Every single week morning this is what I wake up to. My alarm signalling for me to wake up at 6:30. Well, today is a special morning because it's my birthday!
"Happy birthday to me.
Happy birthday to me.
Happy birthday dear Talia.
Happy birthday to me." I quietly sing to myself. A big smile spreads across my face as the smell of waffles enter my nostrils. I reach over my body to lift my lilac covered duvet off of my pyjama-covered body and swing my tanned legs out of the warm depths of my bed. I run to the edge of the door, grab my purple polka dotty robe and dash down the hallway putting it on as j run. I reach the end of the hallway to be bombarded with hugs and kisses from my dad, "happy birthday, sweetie! How does it feel to be 14?" My dad says, still hugging me tight. My dad Cody is probably one of the cuddliest people on the face of the earth. He likes to hug me for as long as he can. I always seem to get along great with him. Most of my friends at school are always talking about their mothers and how they don't really see their dad very often. They always say that their dad is working or on a business trip.
"Well, I've only just gotten out of bed. But the 3.5 minutes that I have been up have been great!" I reply with a little sarcasm in the word great. I finish hugging my dad and walk through the living room to get to the dining room. My older brother obviously hears me coming because I get picked up and carried in a fireman's lift to the dining room table. "Hey sis. Happy birthday!" Matt says laughing.
"Matt! Put me down now!" I say trying to break fee from is strong grip.
"Not until you say you love me," he answers in a high girly voice. "Never."
"Then I'll never put you down." Matt says walking over to a dining chair and sitting down, still clutching onto me. Matt is my 19 year old brother. He is super annoying but he is still so nice and funny and I can tell him about anything and he will listen and try to give the best advice that he can give to me. He has helped me a lot with my friendships and stuff, so I guess I should say I love you, shouldn't I? I thought to myself.
"Matt."
"Yes Talia."
"I love you, Matt."
"Ohhh, shucks! I love you too." Matt says cheekily before putting me down in the chair next to him.
The whole time Matt and I were being stupid just then, mum was cooking waffles and dad was sitting in his chair reading the newspaper and drinking his coffee. "Talia!" I heard my mum say.
"Mummy." I say back to her in a childish voice, batting my eyes lashes.
"Happy birthday, hun!" She says with a gigantic hug. I hug her back instantly and we let go of each other after about 3 seconds. I see her get out 4 plates and hand one to me. She places one in front of a now hungry Matt as she calls to dad saying breakfast is ready. She walks over with a ceramic plate in her hands. I know straight away that the waffles are under the tea-towel because I hear dad chime, "mmmmmmm. Waffles!" Mum sets the waffles down on the table and we all dig in.
Everyone laughs when mum attempts to put whipped cream on top of her golden waffle but fails by spraying cream in her face because the nozzle was pointing up instead of down. Just looking around the dining room table; seeing everyone smiling, I can just tell that this is going to be the best 14th birthday ever!
