Hunter trotted down the stairs to Lexi.
"How's it going?" he asked suspiciously.
"Fine," she answered.
"That's good."
"Yeah," she said.
"Where you been?" he interrogated.
"The mall."
"Really? The mall? You get anything?"
"Why do you care?" she demanded.
That shut him up.
She felt bad. "Sorry. I didn't mean to-"
He interrupted her. "No. It's fine."
Lexi's phone started ringing. The song "Clarity" shrilling through the room.
"Hello?" She answered. A second or two later, she said, "Sorry I can't."
Hunter could make out the person on the other line saying, "Why not?"
"Um... I, uh... I just can't," she stuttered. She waited a beat before saying, "Yeah, bye," and ending the call.

"Sorry about earlier, Luk."
"That's okay. I-" He was cut off by a knock at the door. "Hold on, babe," he said, and started walking toward the door.
Lexi stood and followed behind him.

He said, "Hello. I'm James Nolan and I'm looking for Lexi Allen. Her boyfriend's worried and I hear your a cop."
