A deep fire burned through my heart as we walked away from each other into the shadows of darkness.

'I can't believe you already

miss him.' I fought with myself. But I yearned for the amazing sensation of his hands or his eyes, or his lips.

I giggled and then turned around walking to my house. A gentle breeze blowing through my dirty blond hair.

I huddled further into my jacket. Taking small strides so as not to waste any energy.

It was a brisk autumn night in October and I was walking home from Justin's house.

Ahh Justin. I sighed fantasizing about our future.

Stop it! I can't stand thinking about him and then losing track of everything in my own mind.

I continued to walk stepping over little moonlight puddles refusing to get all wet.

Leaves blew under my boots giving a slight crunch to my step.

"Hey." Came a almost familiar voice.

I stopped in my tracks puzzled. "Hey?" I called out in response.

The voice huffed and then answered. "Come on really? You don't remember me?" She laughed. "I thought you would." The person stepped out of the shadows.

"Rebecca?" I felt weak in the knees. "I thought you were going to Iraq!"

"Well turns out my dad doesn't need to go!" She squealed and then fell into my arms. I broke out into a laughing fit.

"So why are you out so late?" She questioned me eyeing my fancy blue short cut gown and my gold hand bag with black flats to top it off.

"Oh nothing." I said fake closing the conversation.

She smirked. "Justin?" She giggled.

"Justin." I smiled.

"So you two are dating now?" She said eyeing me suspiciously.

"Ya? Why does it matter?" I looked at her puzzled at the tone of sadness in her voice.

"Uhh. Well...you see..." She stammered staring at her beat up shoes.

"You like him don't you?" I said slightly punching her shoulder. "Its fine. I mean everyone in school is jealous."

"Peyton. No. It's not that." She looked up boring her hazel eyes into my brown ones.

"Woah. Alert! Alert! Mood changer!" I attempted to lighten the mood.

She chuckled nervously. "Well then that will make this really awkward." She confessed. "Get her." She whispered in to wrist.

The street suddenly exploded with life. Flashlights were pointed at me in at least five directions. Rebecca stepped out of the circle with a look of apology on her face.

"I'm sorry." She mouthed.

I felt a strong pain in my thigh. And then the world was black.
