"Are you sure we'll be okay out in the wild for the summer? Alone with the bears, wolves, and God knows what else?" I had asked Timothy if he was sure if he wanted to be in the Katmai National Park in Alaska.
"Yes, I'm sure; I'm positive. I've been doing this for the past twelve years, what's the worst that can happen?" Timothy was the type of person that would stick to anything he says.
"Okay. I believe you."
I took one last look at the plane before it took off. Once that plane left it was just going to be me, Timothy, and the wild animals. With little civilization and no way to navigate where we were going, I decided it was going to be Hell.
"Well, now that the plane is gone, let's get started on our journey. I'll grab these two bags and you grab those two. We'll come back later." We grabbed the bags and started walking towards the forest.
"You'll love it here Stacie, you'll see a lot. It's just as beautiful as you." He chirped.
Timothy and I had been together for a while. We met in college, and from there our love slowly blossomed. We kept on walking until he pointed to a bear."Look, it's Mr. Chocolate! I love you Mr. Chocolate!" I couldn't believe what I was witnessing. This man was sweet-talking a grizzly bear!
"Tim, what exactly are you doing?"
"I'm talking to the bear. I'm like the bear whisperer. Let's start recording here, hopefully we'll see my little fox friend."
I was starting to regret this trip. I knew we were here for research but I didn't know he was here to be a "bear whisperer". We unpacked as much as we could and set up camp in silence.
"If it isn't my little fox friend Timmy!" He pointed.
I looked to see a red fox stalking towards us. "I think he's really lost it." I think to myself. Now I'm stuck out here with him for the whole summer, with no phones, other people, and definitely no civilization. Well, there was civilization but it was quite a distance considering the fact that we have to walk to reach it, and we have no transportation either.
"Do you want to pet him?" He asks me.
I wasn't too keen on touching something that could give me rabies, but then again this fox was so small that I could stomp on it if I really wanted to. Plus I figured that this could be a good thing to film for the documentary, so I went along with it.
"Be quiet and make slow movements," Timothy instructed me to do so I did. As I walked up to the fox I realized that I wasn't scared of it anymore, it was beautiful. It's eyes were a blueish-gray color.
"Set the camera and stuff up, I want this on footage." I quickly set up the camera and began to record.
"Hello everybody, I'm with my little fox friend, see, he's so beautiful! I love you Mr. Fox." As Timothy kept playing with the fox I grew bored and went to go explore some of the area on my own. I made sure that the camera was still recording and walked off . I'll make sure to be back soon.
