Alaska slammed her book shut. Once again, her head was getting into the clouds. She must focus! But focusing is hard when all you want to do is crawl into a book. To escape from all your problems. To find love with the characters you know better than yourself. To discover and feel the lands you love and read about forever.
But in reality, we can't. Alaska looked outside the train carriage, her long brown hair moving swiftly with her head as it moved.
"We will be arriving in Stirling in approximately 10 minutes.."
Alaska looked at her watch. 4:50am...
Never had she been so thankful that there was a train this early. She was able to escape swiftly. Like smoke in the wind. Her eyes darted back to the outside where she could see her mountains in the background. She reminded herself that she must come across natural. Naturally, she didn't.
Not long. Not long till I can run into the mountains and never go back. I can escape with my books and write some if I may. Alaska thought to herself. These mountains were her only chance to run away. Away from the brutality.
The thought of her world jerked a year from Alaska's eyes. It trickled down her rosy cheek. It wasn't the world anymore. It was a place of hatred, pain and brutality. Mostly of death.
The rain patted on the Windows or the train. September wasn't the best time to run away. Alaska's hands started to shake as the cold air and rain from an open window started to nip on her skin. She ached to stand up and close it but was scared to start a commotion.
The train soon came to a holt as the 10 minutes came to an end. Alaska stood up and tried to take down her backpack from the luggage carrier but proved unsuccessful. She jerked at it continuously and never found a way to get it out. "God darn you stupid bag!!" Although tall, Alaska was just a couple centimetres too small to manage to take it off a hook that was attaching it.
She only had 5 minutes to do this and time was running out. The smallest things made her anxious. Like the world would crumble at her feet.
Foot steps of someone were approaching her. Now she had to be faster so she wouldn't get in the way. A tall muscular figure came up behind her. Alaska stood struggling until she could feel his breath on her neck. It was warm but gave her a fright. She jerked away when she realised that the man was going to help her. But was it a man? He had the face of a young man. Age guessing tugged on Alaska's mind. 17? 18? No... 16? Her mind was too focused on him that she missed what he was saying.
"Here is your bag, miss..." He passed her her heavy backpack and smiled at her while Alaska just stared at the beautiful man. "What is in there... The library?"
Their hands touched when he passed the bag to her. He looked at her like she looked at him. With confusion yet longing. She wanted to know who he was. He wanted to touch her.
Taking her back swiftly, Alaska thanked the man and spun round. Her hair followed her movements and brushed past him as she left the train.
"Wait!" A deep voice made Alaska stop once she reached the platform.
"Who are you?" The man said looking at Alaska from the door.
She stumbled at her words and looked at him.
"Someone who you will never want to know..."
She looked at him while the train started to leave. He was on there. He was going. He was gone.
"Focus..." Alaska told herself. Once again, she was escaping into her imagination.
But she had to escape to the highlands.
Her mind still on the man.
Who was he...
And those eyes...
She new from the second she lost him... He was the man she was looking for.
