Chapter 2 – Wait, what?!

Instead of playing soccer like I had dreamed, we played baseball. But at least I had something to look forward to, and that was a free burger, to be exact.

When the day was finally over, I sighed in relief. I waited for Joe to come and drive me home. Minutes passed by and then he finally exit the huge school doors, with a girl!? They were both smiling, Joe was talking, probably saying something funny, because the girl laughed. I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms on my chest. I heard them yell goodbye to each other and then Joe appeared on my left.

„You’re late,“ I muttered and grabbed my bag from the ground. From the corner of my eye, I could see the confused look on his face. That only meant that he was seriously thinking about what he had done wrong.

„You’re not jealous, are you?“ He raised his eyebrow and smirked foxily.

„Wha..? No!“ How could he even think that I was jealous? He has the right to flirt with girls. We are just friends. I’m okay with that. „But I had to wait for you for like ten minutes!“

„And you didn’t die!“ He cheered and poked me with his shoulder. I bit my lip and tried not to show any sign of surrender. I wanted to smile and give in, but I had to hold myself back from doing it. He had to suffer just a little bit more. „Come on, are you really mad at me for talking to a girl?“ I heard amusement in his voice. Damn, he was enjoying every bit of this situation.

„No, because you’re doing it right now,“ I shook my head and let a slight smile appear on my face. Joe rolled his eyes and put his hand over my shoulders.

„Oh, you silly,“ he mumbled and sighed. „Can I come over and make it up to you?“

I stopped walking and acted like I was really thinking about it, considering all the facts – the pros and cons, and then finally nodded. „How about a movie night?“ I challenged him.

„How about I rent the movies?“ He smirked and pulled me forward, so I’d have to continue walking.

„Sounds like a terrible idea, but okay,“ I agreed and got in the car. Well, he kind of pushed me in and that left me no choice. Then he got in as well, started the car and pulled out of the parking lot. Most of the students had already left. We were basically the last ones there.

„So, I’ll drop you off to your house, go to my place and grab all my stuff, then go rent a movie while you cook me some lunch and then come back to your place. How about that?“ He glanced at me before returning his eyes on the road.

„Okay,“ I said lazily and rested my head on the window. „But no scary movies, OK?“ He sighed and then nodded in surrender.

„Fine,“ he snapped. „But no chick flicks either.“

„Deal,“ I reached my hand towards him and he shook it. So it was official. No scary movies and no chick flicks, just the way I like it.

The first thing I did when I got home, was to turn up the volume of the radio. The second thing was to sing along Avril Lavigne’s ’What the Hell’. Even though I don't have the brilliantest of voices, that didn’t stop me from singing it loud and proud. The third thing was to change my clothes and the fourth thing was to do some of my homework. Finally, I went to the kitchen to do something for lunch and since I wasn’t going to be alone, I had to make the lunch for two. That also meant I couldn’t screw up. That’s the beauty of cooking a meal to a stranger – you couldn’t screw up. And as a nice, sweet best friend, I was going to follow the unwritten rule. Did everything go according to plan? Well, I’m pretty sure you know the answer…
