I was running through the woods, heart pounding in rhythm with my feet. I could hear them catching up to me, they weren’t silent in the woods like I was. Shouts are heard, telling me to slow down. I laughed and slowed to a stop, waiting. I could hear them getting closer when I heard a thud directly behind me.
I spun around with a grin on my face, already knowing who made the noise. His strong arms wrapped around me and pulled me closer to him. His handsome face lowered and his lips met mine. My arms slid up his body until they wrapped around his neck, making sure he didn’t pull away.
“Guys, c’mon! No P.D.A.! Some of us are single and hate third wheeling!”
I pulled away slightly from him to look over his shoulder. A smile was on my face as I looked at my friends. There were six of us; three guys and three girls.
“Sorry, Jess. I just can’t help it!” I said as I looked at the brunette with the hazel eyes. She stuck her tongue out at me and bolted into the woods, laughing.
“I guess we’re supposed to follow her now?” Matt said, looking to me for confirmation. I only smiled at the tall, blond haired, blue eyed boy as I entwined my fingers with Mitch’s and took off after Jess. I could hear the others start to run and felt Mitch match his pace with mine.
I looked to my left as I ran to see my favourite person in the whole world running beside me. His blue-green eyes were shinning as he kept pace with me. He was smiling; showing off his perfect white teeth while his short light-brown hair was starting to fall into his eyes as we ran. He looked at me and his smile grew wider as he gazed into my eyes.
“I love you, Cris.” He said as we kept on running. My smile only grew as he spoke in his deep, husky voice.
I could hear Jess running just up ahead, when I heard her scream. Matt and his twin brother; Brent, stopped and looked around. Fear was plain on their faces. Mitch tightened his grip on my hand while I narrowed my eyes in the direction of the scream. Laura automatically went to Brent who wrapped his arms around her protectively. They were all scared. Scared of what could of caused our friend to scream, scared that she might be dead and scared that they might be in danger.
“Stay here, guys. I’m gonna go see what happened”, I said to my friends with a cool, calm voice. Mitch moved to go with me, but I shot him a dark look and pulled my hand out of his. He stopped in his tracks; looking hurt. I turned on my heels and walked in the direction that I heard Jess scream, feeling his worried eyes following me.
I already knew why Jess screamed. They were here. They had finally found me after two years of being on the run. I could smell there, there was only two of them and by their scent I knew who they were. I walked into a clearing that wasn’t very far from where I had left my friends. In the center I could see Jess; she was lying face down in the grass, her back ripped to shreds. She wasn’t moving.
I growled, low and threatening as I waited for them to show themselves.
“You’re hard to track, little sister”, a voice said to my right. I whipped my head to the side, only to see my older brother. He looked just as I remembered him; tall, muscular and cold. His black hair fell in his face, covering his bright green eyes. “It’s time for you to return to the pack, our Alpha is pissed that you ran away from him”, he said in a cold voice that dripped with hatred.
“You’ll have to kill me then, Jeremy”, I said with the same tone he had used. “I have no intentions of ever going back, especially with him there!” I was furious at the thought of going back to my old pack, of seeing him.
