Everyone gasped, and the girl, who couldn't have been much older than 12, burst into tears and flew into Maple's arms, crying her eyes out. "I put you all into so much trouble, and I didn't even finish the story! You're all stuck in here, and I don't know how to get you out!! Please help me!"
Jack rolled up his sleeve and started towards the girl, but Amelia stepped in front of him and brushed the girl's hair back. "Honey, why don't you just finish it now? You do know that Wattpad automatically saves your stories, right?"
The girl cried even harder and said, "But - I wrote it offline, and it didn't save the last chapter! I don't know what to do!!!"
Maple found herself stroking the girl's hair, which seemed to calm both of them down, and she cooed, "Shh, it's okay... Don't worry, we'll get out on our own. Please, don't be sad."
The girl stoppered crying for a second and looked into Maple's eyes with a sorrowful gaze. "You don't know, do you? You don't know what I did?"
Mark puffed out his chest and sauntered forward. "Well, it couldn't have been that bad after all, and of course I can get out of here, because Warfstache don't take no-"
The girl lowered her head and quietly asked, "Maple, what was your mother and father like? Did you have any brothers and sisters, and what were they like?"
Maple opened her mouth to answer, but she had never thought of that. She didn't know what her parents looked like, or if she had a brother or sister. All she had known was Wattpad, and this messed up world... Dumbfounded, she opened and closed her mouth soundlessly, but no words came out. Jack asked, "Laddie, tell her... You do remember, don't you?"
Tears rolled down the girl's plump cheeks and she said, "Maple, there is something I have to tell you... YOu aren't human. You are a part of this story, and you can't leave this story. The others can, and they probably will, but you are from here, and you can't exist in the real world..."
Amelia choked back a scream and asked, "I- Is this true, or are you messing with us? Maple is as real as the sun and the day, and you can't just say that she is some made up monster! That's not true!"
The girl sighed and said, "Maple, I want you to focus closely on your hands and think of all of the things you know about your world. Please, do this for me..."
Maple looked at her hands and concentrated. Her skin flashed from pale white to dark black, and her body was composed of words describing her appearance. Bob, Amelia, Jack, and Mark gasped, and the girl stood up. "Maple, you aren't real, but there is something you have to do... You are the only one who can rewrite the story and change it back to normal so we can escape, but you will have to give up your life to do so."
Everyone took a collective gasp. After a couple of tense seconds, Bob took a step forward and touched Maple on the arm. "You don't have to rewrite it, and we can stay here with you forever..."
Maple pulled her arm away and said, "No, this is something I have to do on my own. Tell me, Author, what do I have to do to bring everyone back?"
The author smiled and said, "Al you have to do is merge with all of the words down there, the ones that Septiplier_Away13 is fighting, and the story will go back to normal. I wish you luck, Maple."
Maple turned away and looked down from the tip of the hand's pinkie fingers. Amelia and Bob reached out to her and said, "Maple, please... We don't deserve this... Stay with us, and we can all be together..."
Maple brushed their hands off and spoke. "No, I can't let you do that... If I'm a part of the story, then it is my duty to protect all of you. Fate isn't something you can mess around with, and this is my destiny."
She dove off the hand and into the sea of words below, closing her eyes peacefully. Bob and Amelia yelled to her, but their cries fell upon deaf ears. Maple tilted her head up and faced her friends, looking them directly in their eyes. She smiled and whispered, "Live on in the real world, and don't forget me..."
She relaxed her limbs and felt something pulling on her soul, beckoning it down into the whirlpool of letters. Maple accepted the invitation and let herself be pulled down to the point of no return...
