The first thing he noticed when he woke up was that was freezing. The heater must have stopped working over night because Dan felt like he was sleeping in the Antarctic. He curled up tighter under his blankets and wondered if it was possible for him to sleep the day away. His thoughts were rudely interrupted when Dan's perky flatmate bound into the room, excitedly waving his hands around.

"Dan! Dan! It's Christmas!" Phil yelled, "It's finally Christmas!" Finally noticing that Dan was still in sleeping, or at least trying to, Phil dashed over to the windows and pulled open the blinds.

"Come on! Get up, Dan!"

Dan's only reply was a groan as he turned away from the blinding morning light. Frustrated because of the lack of response, Phil proceed to walk over to the bed and yank away all of Dan's blankets.

"Hey give those back!" Dan sleepily protested as his only source of warmth was stolen.

"You'll get them back once you get up and get dressed!" Phil sang and ran out into the hallway, humming an off-key Christmas tune. The warmth-deprived youtuber sighed and swung his legs over the edge of the bed. So much for sleeping the day away.

After Dan finally finished getting dressed, he stumbled into the kitchen and made himself a bowl of cereal. He'd just sat down at the table when Phil came, skipping into the room. Dan could hear Phil singing "Deck the Halls" under his breath as the excited man-child sat down across from him.

"So," Phil slowly asked, "When are we going to set up the Christmas tree?" Dan almost choked on his cereal.

"We haven't set that up yet!?"

"Uh, yeah," Phil replied, giving Dan a confused glance. "The box's been sitting in our living room for three days. I asked you to set it up a while ago and you just waved your hand and said later. Don't tell me you forgot about it." Dan's cheeks turned red.

"No! No, I didn't. I was, just, uh, planing to do it today!"

"Alright then, but the guests are going to come in the afternoon and I have to do some last minute shopping. Can you handle it by yourself?" As he stood up to put away his bowl, Dan nodded.

"Don't worry, I'll be fine. How hard can it be?"

Three hours later, Dan was regretting not grabbing onto Phil right at the moment and crying, begging, doing whatever he could to get his flatmate to stay. The stupid tree was refusing to be set up! He'd spent 30 minutes just trying to set up the base of the tree! The packaging said "easy to assemble!", but Dan's muscles said something else. Finally, Dan was able to collapse onto the couch with a completely set-up, but wobbly looking, Christmas tree in the corner of the room.He had actually grown fond of it after all the hard work he put into setting it up and decided to name it Mr. Tree. As he gave a large sigh of relief, he searched the room for his laptop. Maybe I'll just take a minute to check tumblr before I start adding ornaments and lights. As he stared at the computer screen, a minute turned into 30 minutes, and 30 minutes turned into an hour. Before he knew it, time had flown by and the Mr. Tree was still didn't have a single light on him. The only reason that Dan had stopped to get up was that he heard Phil enter the house again. Phil's announcement of "I'm home!" was proceeded by several thuds that did not sound like footsteps. Dan sat up straighter to greet his friend, but instead of a raven-haired head poking form the doorway, several brightly colored bags entered the room first.

"I thought you were just shopping for a present for your mum!" Dan exclaimed when he saw all of the goods Phil had bought. With a sheepish smile, Phil set down the bags.

"Well, I might've bought a few extra things."

"Yeah, a few, then fifty more!" Dan laid back down on the couch. He was too tired to scold Phil for wasting money.

"What did you even get?" A smile spread over Phil's face as he started listing off all of the random junk he had bought.

"And I got another plant because we need something more to brighten up the place." He proceeded to pull out a small, potted fern-thing from a white bag. Dan groaned and turned to look at Phil.

"You bought another one?"

"Yup! I saw in at the shop all by itself in the corner. It just looked so lonely that I decided to buy it! Now it can make friends with the others."

"Of course," muttered Dan as he rolled his eyes. Phil was probably the only person in the world that would think a plant look lonely.

"Hey, you set up the tree!" Phil exclaimed as he walked over to look at it. "But why does it look so uneven? Here let me fix it..." Dan turned just in time to see all of his hard work gone to waste as the tree slowly fell onto his friend.

"Are you okay?!" Quickly, Dan ran over to his flatmate. He ignored Phil struggling under the tree and  wrapped his hands around the Christmas tree.

"Mr. Tree, no! Don't leave me!" Dan pleaded as he stroked the branches, "I didn't even get to decorate you yet!" Underneath the tree, Phil gave an indignant sputter.

"Get off the tree! I can't move it with you on it too!" Dan ignored his shouts and narrowed his eyes at Phil.

"You're the one that knocked Mr. Tree over. You should be apologizing to him." Phil sputtered again.

"But-but-!"

"Say you're sorry!"

"Fine, I'm sorry Mr. Tree. Now get off it!" Dan reluctantly moved away from his precious Mr. Tree and watched Phil struggle. He knew he should probably go and help, but it was hilarious watching Phil squirming in an awkward position. Suddenly, Dan heard the doorbell ring from the bottom of the stairs. Leaving Phil pinned under the tree, he dashed down to greet his friends.

He yanked open the door just as Phil yelled, "No, Dan you can't leave me here!" Disregarding the confused looks his friends gave him, he smiled

"PJ, Chris! Hi! You guys are early, but come in!" He turned back up the stairs, not checking to see if his friends were following him. When he reached the top, he saw Phil had managed to get the tree backup again, but it still looked wobbly and the room was still covered in bags from Phil's shopping.

"Wait here, let me just go clean these up." Dan said as he picked up all the colorful packages and went to go put them in the kitchen. From the living room, he could hear PJ talking.

"That's a nice tree there, but it looks a bit lop-sided. Let me just.."

Dropping all of the bags, Dan dashed out of the room just to see the, once again, his Christmas tree fall on PJ.

"NO! Mr. Tree!"
