It was evening. Raven had been wondering around the small village of Finis for a while. When I say small village; I mean small. Everyone knew why she was out there, wandering the fogged paths. The death of her twin brother, Imithe (or Mit for short), had put her into a mental haze.  The villagers watched her with open pity in their eyes, but Raven didn't want their pity.

Her icy silver eyes flashed in anger and she turned her head up in a defiant gesture. Taking a deep breath, she glared the villagers, who, unwilling to meet her steely gaze, scattered back to their tasks.

Her cold eyes lingered for a moment on an old friend of her brother's, Adrian. His soft brown eyes met hers for a moment, before she spun and stormed into the forest, silver white hair whipping out behind her. After a few minutes, she came across a small clearing shrouded by forestry. Raven drew another deep breath. For a moment, she held herself together. There was completely silence, then Raven's loud sob echoed around the clearing. Curling her arms around herself, she sunk to her knees, more tears trailing sorrowful paths down her cheeks.

There were light footsteps behind her, but Raven was too distraught to care. She felt a pair of arms wrap gently around her, drawing her close into a well muscled chest. Soft coos echoed around her.

She knew who had followed. It was Adrian; She could could tell from his very distinct smell. He smelt of cut grass, sawdust and cologne.

She didn't complain as he gently lifted her, setting her down on the oddly twisted branches of an oak tree.

Opening her eyes, she settled her gaze on him, but softer this time. "Why?" She asked simply.

He ruffled his shaggy black hair, giving her a sheepish look.

"I just wanted to check that you were okay" He answered quietly.

She pulled her knees up to her chest with a sigh and Adrian, making a clear effort not to upset her, gently settled down next to her on the large tangle of branches.

With five simple words from him, they both drifted into a light sleep.

"It'll be okay. I promise".

More will be explained in the next chapter, I promise you that. -Author
