I looked inside my drawer and dug underneath all of my clothing, and found my favorite outfit. I then looked under my bed, and found my secret box of treasures. I opened it and pulled out small gold hoops. I put my gold nose ring back in, and slid on black heels to match with my black two piece dress. The top had small spaghetti straps, and the bottom half hugged my hips, and came down just a bit above my mid-thigh. I grabbed my beaded black clutch, and opened my window ever so slightly. I had already put on a little makeup and fixed my hair prior to changing, so I was all ready to go.
The alarm only went off if you pulled the window up high enough to a certain spot. I was careful to avoid the alarms and slipped through the window, and shutting it behind me, leaving just a sliver open.
I smiled as I felt the brisk air hit my face. I instantly felt the amazing feeling of freedom again. I walked quickly away from the Anorexia Rehabilitation Institution, not once looking back
A friend of mine was supposed to be meeting me outside of a brew house a few blocks down. I looked around as I traveled down the sidewalk, admiring how lovely San Francisco looked at night. Everything was so bright and colorful. This city was known to come alive at night.
I passed an older homeless woman, and instantly felt sorry for her. I took out a 5 dollar bill and handed it to her.
"Bless you child," The woman said, and gave me a warm toothless grin. I smiled back and nodded, continuing to walk towards my destination.
I finally made it to the brew house, and leaned up against the building. I took out my phone, and notified Rachel that I'd made it.
Almost there :) can't wait to see your face!!
I smiled as I read her text. I'd missed her too. It'd been forever since we'd gone out together.
Someone tapped my shoulder, and I yelped like a Chihuahua. I turned around to see my best friend Rachel, looking fabulous, as usual.
"Jesus Christ Rachel, why do you have to scare me every single chance you get?"
"It's fun to see you scream," She replied, with a wink.
"Not for me, it isn't. Next time, I'm gonna pull out mace on you," I said, and laughed, "We'll see who's screaming then."
She laughed and shook her head, taking my arm. Rachel lead me down the sidewalk a bit to a parking lot.
"Really? You could've just picked me up in your car," I said, pointing to her car.
"Well, you know me, I don't really think things through. Just come on!"
I grunted as she dragged me to her car. I had to admit, Rachel had a pretty nice car. A royal blue BMW, just her style. She even bought it on her own, with money she worked up for. That was a big deal for Rachel. She normally got what she wanted whenever she wanted it, she came from a very wealthy family.
I got into her car, and placed my clutch on the floor. She got in a second after me, and put her key into the ignition.
"So where exactly are we going?" I asked Rachel, who was already on the road.
"You'll see," she replied, with a devilish grin planted across her flawless face.
Oh lord, I thought, what was it going to be this time?
As we drove on, Rachel inquired me about how my life was. To be perfectly honest, my life was boring. Every morning was the same, I woke up, got weighed, then criticized for not eating as much as I needed to. I was given medicine, and cans of this gross protein stuff that was supposed to help with my condition. I never took the protein stuff, I always poured it down the drain. And then all of the patients would do a couple of sessions of group therapy, and maybe go to the gym or if it was nice out, we'd go outside. But you know, I hated talking about my life at the institution. I break out to escape from my daily life, to be someone I'm not. I mean, over the past few months I've gotten a lot better. I've put on more weight since the last time Rachel had seen me. She even commented about how healthy I looked, but I decided to ignore it.
"How's Preston?" I asked her, looking out of the window, thinking of Rachel's tall, masculine boyfriend. They were almost like the perfect couple; Barbie and Ken.
"Well we've been going through a hard time right now, but it's nothing I want to worry you with. This night is going to be fun!"
