Just Business (PruAme one shot)

The king finished reading the terms of the Peace Treaty, our leaders standing and shaking hands. The younger American stood, walking out of the room quietly. He managed to make it outside, shutting the door before he grabbed at his chest, gasping. "E-England..." He stood there for a moment, fighting back tears. Suddenly, the door opened, pushing him forward. He regained his balance, standing straight quickly. "Calm down Alfred, it's just me." America relaxed slightly at the sight of the white-haired Prussian. Gilbert watched as Al closed his eyes, rubbing his temple. Where had the energetic boy he'd fallen for gone? Although he would never admit it to him, Gil's motives for getting involved in England and America's war wasn't just for the sake of his government. No, he hated England, which had lead him to train Alfred. He never expected to begin to care for the rowdy, determined boy who had seemed to disappear with the years of war. The man standing in front of him no longer resembled the other. His eyes now had the haunted look of older countries, his jaw set.

Alfred opened his eyes to see the intense red of Prussia's staring at him. He smiled wearily, running a hand through his hair. "You know, if it wasn't for you and France, England and I would still be on the field, at each other's throats." Gil chuckled, shaking his head. "You're the only one who knows about my involvement besides France." "And it will stay a secret for as long as we live." Al smiled, his first geniune smile in awhile. Gilbert felt his heart stop for a second, forcing the sentence out. "This was all for business." Alfred stood tall as the noise in the conference room started to swell, signaling the end of the meeting. "You taught me to fight once, now I'll fight for you forever." With those last words, they turned, Gilbert disappearing before anyone saw him and Albert to face the new country, his home, that now fully belong to him and his people.
