"Sissy I'm home!" I yelled as I closed the door behind me, but I didn't hear her anywhere throughout the apartment. So I walked towards the fireman's pole, and leaned in to look up to the loft. But I didn't hear her music, or even her annoying typing from her old timey typewriter. "Amy? Where are you? I thought you'd be home by now..." I looked at the little breadbox in my kitchen, and decided against grabbing the hidden gun. If there ended up being a problem I could handle it myself. My hands started to grow colder, so I looked down at them and saw them turning blue. This only happens when I start feeling fearful, so I took a deep breath to calm down. "Amelia Renee Smith, if you're here I'm going to hurt you." I tried to laugh, but she still didn't answer. "Amy this isn't funny anymore." I took out my phone, because it started to ring. It was her number, so I unlocked the screen and pressed answer. "Hey sis-."
"Your older sister is a little preoccupied at the moment." Someone said with a very gritty, and deep voice. My entire body went completely rigid, and the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end. "You may recognize my voice from a few months ago, when you were pursuing me for those suicides. You didn't really know it was me, but you were close to finding me several times. It's a shame really, you were so close to convincing your boss that there was something there. But he had that one extra nudge in the right direction from me." I had this insane theory three months ago, that those suicides weren't out of their own free will. I was convinced that this man on the other line had reached into their minds and forced them to jump. One of those people had been my best friend, Rose, who wasn't suicidal at all. Every victim didn't have a history of depression, didn't have a history of a rough childhood, and didn't have anything wrong that would bring this sort of behavior on. It was ignorant to not look into something like this just because it was a suicide, so I went under the radar to find out more. Chronicle, where I currently work as an agent, didn't want to have anything to do with it. Even though they specialize in people with abilities like that. That's one major reason they wanted to recruit me.
"What do you want?" I gritted my teeth, this wasn't the first time someone threatened her, but it was the first time someone had taken her. I took a deep breath again, and made sure my fingers weren't frosting over. I grabbed the silver ring Chronicle had given me from the small granite countertop in the kitchen, but hesitated when I thought about what I might have to do. The ring was meant to keep my powers at bay, but what if I needed to use it to free Amy? What if this was one of those situations I was trained to use my powers for? But I could just end up hurting a lot of people, so I decided to put it on my ring finger.
"You've crossed me, so now I'm going to make you do my dirty work for me." I was about to object, but I started moving on my own. My right hand reached for the keys to my car, and then I started for the door. But I wasn't doing this. "It doesn't matter if you don't want to, because you and I both know that I can just make you do it." I tried to speak, but it was like my mouth glued shut. "I know what you're thinking, and I'm not going to kill your sister I promise. But that doesn't mean I can't have a little fun with you first."
Where am I going exactly? I thought, because maybe he can hear me through that.
"Good, so you've learned how to communicate to me while I'm controlling you. I guess you're not as stupid as I thought you were." He laughed, and it was like it was inside of my head, talking directly to my brain. "If you couldn't tell before, you were right. I reach into people's minds, and control them. Sometimes they don't even realize it, and most times I don't get caught because I erase myself from their memories. Or, well you know the other option."
Death... My body shivered for a moment, and I thought I might be back in control, but then I closed the car door and started driving down the street. So just tell me where I'm going before I get angry, and promise to release my sister once I'm done.
