Michael Joel Allen was usually a happy child, until recently. "It's always been like this. Sure, they're my parents but does that really mean anything significant? To me, it doesn't mean a thing. Jacklynn and Robert Allen; they honestly aren't my most favorite people. I hate them. My mother was an author and my father was an artist; the money was fine but I don't need them. But maybe I acquired some of their talents and interests. Who cares, I'm my own person. I like it because that's all that was ever there for me, well, besides my grandmother. They're the reason she isn't here. They never wanted either of us. But she was too young to understand. Where did they send her? She was my little sister! For God's sake! Why didn't anyone help her?! If there was a God he wouldn't have let that happen to her. Lila Marie, I love you and I will find you." All these thoughts begin to rush through Michael's head after he is sure that his sister is gone. It's been a few weeks. She turns 5 next week. Michael was only 13 at the time and knew he had to do something. He had to bring his little sister back. He couldn't just stand by and watch as she was out there some where, maybe even dead. No, he couldn't think that way. "She has to be alive. They wouldn't kill her; would they? They can't possibly be that heartless!" Michael couldn't stop the thoughts that his little sister may be dead but he had to be optimistic about this kind of situation. It's t like it happened every day.

Four Years Later

Michael has adjusted to living and providing for himself. His grandmother could no longer care for him after she had passed away so he was put into the care of his "parents". He was glad his parents were gone now. He couldn't live with myself if he pretended to be happy living with that type of treatment for the rest of his life. They weren't just temporarily gone though. They had died three days before his 15th birthday; an "accident" had occurred. He hoped no one found out the truth. That was his secret to keep and never share. But, Michael still plans on finding his sister as soon as he graduates. His birthday is next month, meaning he graduates in two months. Everyday he walks the hallways, his sister should be there with him. He passes the guys his sister would crush on and he would've beat them up. Girls that his sister would've been friends with. People that would make her cry. But he never was able to do that because of "his parents". He regrets each and every day that he couldn't be there for her how because he wasn't there for her then when she needed it most. He knows that this will eat at him for the rest of his life until she is found. He knows she can't be dead. She's a smart girl, she would've figured out a way to survive. She may have only been about five years-old but she was more intelligent than she should've been. "Had she known what was going to happen. What if it was me they were after but she knew and volunteered herself in my place. No! She was four. She wouldn't have done that! I just want her back." Michael couldn't stop the thoughts from entering his mind no matter how hard he had tried. Since his parents beat him when he was young, he never really had many friends to hang out with outside because they hadn't allowed him to go and okay. His imagination was really his only friend after his sister disappeared. What boggled his mind most of time these days is that they had the audacity to tell him that his sister ran away but he knew that wasn't the truth.

A Few Days Later

He marches to Stephen's locker and slams it shut while she was grabbing her textbooks. Yes, "that's a boy's name" but that's a girl. When Michael and he'd first met, she told him the story about how her mother and father thought they were going to have a boy but she ended up, obviously, being a girl. They really liked the name so hey kept it. "Hey, why'd you do that? My hands were in there. That could've injured me," she shouts, causing peoples heads' to turn. She shakes off the stares and looks down to her shaking hands. "Michael, you really scared me. You have to stop doing that or I'll punch you in the throat." He began to laugh at her, "Oh Steph, you know I love you!" She just gently nudges him and smiles. He was a lot taller than her. She was 4'10" whereas he was 6'3" so her nudges don't rally even have an effect on him. They began to walk to theatre class together until someone pushed her, leaving her face on the ground. "Are you okay?" He rushes to her aid, "that guy is so lucky that we're about to be late for class! I would've so taken care of him. God, some people!"

"I'm fine, really," she helps herself up, refusing his charity. She was always trying to be strong like that. Michael tends to treat her like his little sister because he cares about her a lot. Steph is his only friend because they are known as "The Freaks". They both have a past pat most of the town knows so they found each other and just became friend. Michael is confident in himself more than Steph is, so he stands up to everyone.

Majority of their school thinks that they are dating, being that they are practically inseparable. Little do they know that Michael doesn't really lean that way, hence is wave-imitating, pink, blue and purple hair that he likes to spray glitter into. But that doesn't stop the ladies from fighting over him. Stephen thinks it's his braces that call to all the ladies, a super cute boy with braces and good teeth; or maybe the dimples. But then again, most of the girls don't like the scars or tattoos. They don't really bother her because she knows what his parents used to do to him when they were drunk or high. Michael isn't too proud of these things; it's not like he can change them. But if you see that man talk about his tattoos, you would know that they are what he's most proud of. He has come to peace with his "survival stripes" that weave in with his artwork. On his arm, covering a few scars, reads, "years of love have been forgot in the minute of hate". He got that one for Lila. But his favorite of the two would be the one that lays against his back. It reads "all that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream" with a raven silhouette, but on the left wing it fades, dispersing into a bare, decaying tree. Steph mainly just likes his size 6.35mm gauges, she said they make him more individualistic. No other guy really has an earring even. He was just perfect in her eyes. But she knows he likes guys so she never hits on him. She just loves him so much and glad that they are friends.

During the journey to class, after Stephen had gotten up, Michael sees a guy they've never seen here before. He winks at Michael, he knew the guy had played a large part in his past but couldn't remember were he had seen him. But he would soon find out.
