(Josh)
*2 months later*

"Josh." She whispers, her hand squeezing mine. My eyes flutter open, then I'm immediately alert. The second I started to wake up I knew something was wrong. "Josh." She whispers again, this time louder, clearly in pain. Oh, shit. She must've been trying to wake me up for a while. "What? What's wrong?" I sit up, looking her over. Her hands still grasping mine and she's got tears streaming down her face. "My water broke." I feel my body go cold as a chill runs down my spine. "What?" I jerk my hand away from hers and feel around on the bed. My hand finds a big wet spot right next to her thigh. "Oh, fuck!" I jump out of bed and pull on a pair of sweat pants and a t-shirt off the floor. "It's okay, Jen. I'm gonna take you to the hospital." I try to sound as calm as I can for her, but I'm freaking out. I grab my phone and keys off the nightstand and shove them in my sweatpants pocket. Then I carefully pick her up and carry her downstairs, holding her against my chest.

I slam the car door and start the car, putting on my seat belt in the process. "Here." I help Jen put her seat belt on too, as quickly as I can. I press on the gas and the car lurches forward. I drive towards the hospital as fast as I can, not caring about the speed limit. There's barely any traffic since it's two in the morning, so I don't have to worry about slowing down.

The nurse leaves and I scoot my chair up next to Jennifer's hospital bed. "Hey, babe. It's gonna be okay." I try to soothe her, stroking her now sweaty hair. "Josh, it hurts." She whines, pressing her face into the pillow. The nurse said she still had to wait a couple of hours before it would actually be time, but that she would be back with some pain medicine for her and the doctor to make sure everything's going okay. "I know, Jen. Here, take my hand." I hold my free hand out to her and she takes it. "Do you want me to call your Mom?" She nods her head yes and I move my hand away from her hair to find my phone. I grab my phone out of my pocket and dial her moms cell phone number. It rings at least five times before she answers. "Josh? What's going on?" She asks, I realize we could've probably waited until the morning to call, but Jen was in so much pain and I thought maybe her moms presence would make it better. "We're at the hospital." I say, glancing over at Jen. Okay, Tell Jen I'll be over there as soon as I can." We had them come out to watch Ava for the week since it was so close to her due date, so it's not like they're very far away. "Okay, bye." We hang up and I feel Jen squeezing my hand. "She's gonna be here as soon as she can." I tell her. She nods, looking down at her feet. "Could you cover me up with that sheet?" She asks, pointing to the sheet at the foot of the bed. I get up and get the sheet, looking her over. She's still wearing the same tiny nightgown she went to bed in, So it's probably a good idea to cover her up before her mom gets here. I spread the sheet out over her and sit back down in my seat. I hold my hand back out to her and she takes it.

Her mom walks in about twenty minutes later and pulls the other chair up to the other side of Jennifer's bed. "You're here." Jen says, turning towards her mother "Yes, I'm here." She sits down in the chair and holds her hand out to Jen, the same way I am. "What about dad?" Jen asks, looking up at her mom. "He's with Ava. They'll be here in the morning." She says. Jen nods, glancing up at the ceiling. "This hurts like a bitch." She says, staring at the ceiling. "I know. I had you remember." They both laugh.

The doctor walks in after a couple of hours to check in on Jennifer, whose been having horrible contractions for the past fifteen minutes. He checks a few things then announces that it's time. "Jesus I know it's time! I've been fucking telling you people it's time." Jennifer responds, gripping my hand tightly. "Hey, Jennifer, calm down. The doctors gonna give you pain medicine." I look at the doctor and she nods. In a flash, the doctors got her changed into a hospital nightgown and giving her pain medicine, while the nurses set up the medical equipment. "Jen, you're going to have to start pushing now, okay?" The doctor looks at her and she nods. "Okay." She sits up straighter and grabs my hand.

After almost an hour of Jennifer squeezing my hand and screaming her head off I finally hear a different scream. This time from a baby, our baby. Jen finally stops, releasing my hand, and sighs heavily, leaning back down in her hospital bed. The doctor wraps the baby up and holds her out to Jennifer. "You want to see her for a minute before we go clean her up?" She's asks, Jennifer nods and holds her hands out. She holds him up to her chest, smiling. "Hi, baby." She says sweetly, not seeming nearly as tired as she was before. She doesn't say anything else. She just stares at our baby, not saying a word, until the doctor takes him to go get him cleaned up. The doctor and nurses leave, leaving me, Jennifer, and her mom alone for a while. "Josh." I move my chair closer to her and lean in towards her, holding my hand back out to her. "I love you." She says, taking my hand. "I love you too." I say, kissing her forehead.

A/N: Hey, I hope you liked this chapter! I had an amazing Christmas and Christmas break and I hope you did too. I go back to school tomorrow though which for most people means less writing but for me it means less sleep. 😂
