"So. Um. Dakota. I've never seen you in school before, you must be new?"
"Yeah, just got here a few days ago, I'm looking for a gang. Nathan and Justin Carson want to try and start one but, we don't have enough people."
"You need eight for a gang, and you have three people so-"
"Four. We have four now."
"Who's the fourth?"
"You. I mean... If you wanted to join."
"I mean, I don't have a weapon right now."
"Who cares, we can find one." He says with a confident smile.
"Okay, we still need a name, and four more people."
"Any ideas?"
"Connor Rolland, Josh Reynolds, Matt Simms, and one other, but, I wouldn't know who."
"There's gotta be someone."
"Tucker Wills."
"Okay, you realize I don't know who any of those people are, right?"
"Okay, Josh and Matt are upperclassman who usually solo, they don't join a gang, why, I don't know. Nathan, obviously you know him, he's in your grade. Justin is his brother, clearly. Connor is a friend of Justin's. Tucker is an old friend of mine, he and I just kind of grew apart after I made the Genesis Knights."
"That sounds like a sweet name. Wait. You're in a gang already?"
"No. I left... Well, more like they ditched me. It's a long story."
"Oh. Okay do we turn here?"
"OH! Yeah my bad I wasn't paying attention."
"It's fine."
"Right here."
"You mean to tell me you live all alone in this big ass house?"
"Yep."
"What kind of rumbling thundercunt parents let their kid do this?"
"Dead ones."
"Oh........... Sorry....."
"It's okay, you didn't know. Mom died of cancer when I was six, Dad died a couple of years ago in a plane crash, my step mom though she was getting everything, she thought wrong."
The two of us sit in silence for awhile, just looking at the house.
"Hey Dakota?"
"Yeah." His expression never changing.
"What the fuck is a rumbling thundercunt?"
This makes him laugh harder than I'd ever seen someone laugh before.
"I don't really know."
"So um, instead of sitting in your truck, do you want to come inside?"
"Sure, my parents don't care where I'm at so long as I'm home by midnight, or I let them know where I'm at."
