Prologue.
I stare up at the sky, the sky that's as black as my heart, and laugh. Oh what fools to think this open prison could hold me, what fools to think their mind games would be any kind of match for me. Me with all my power, all my strength, all my knowledge. Such fools indeed. These chains, made of mere blessed metal, may bind me, for the moment, but soon I'll be free, I'll be free like the raging winds and oceans that surround me, free like a tornado bent on destruction, and I'll be as unstoppable as both of them. And this wretched world will be plunged into chaos, beautiful, magnificent chaos.
Chapter 1, strange happenings
"Take a coat, it's freezing out there!" Cassie yells, knowing I'll ignore her. I do most days, especially now. She's not my mother, after all. Foster care, seemed pretty different from normal life, with a family, but adults constantly nagging after you, that would never change.
I shove my hands deeper into my pockets, bending my head to keep the wind and rain from my eyes and face. I keep walking, not looking back, not looking forward. I used to do this a lot, just walk, with no goal, no end until I tire of it, which I did all too soon. It's easier to think this way, just you and the air... and of course the few people you might bump into every now and then, occasionally ending in both of you sprawled on the side walk. But today I was meeting someone, so I had a goal.
"Aria! Aria!" someone in the not so far distance yell my name. I turn, and try to fight the smile twitching at the corners of my mouth. I am not a smiling person. Or really a people person.
"Hey! I was going to surprise you and turn up at yours, but Cassiopeia said you'd already left" Aaron, smiles as he talked, his tawny eyes on mine.
"1, I hate surprises, 2, her name is Cassie" I reply, allowing the smile to take over my face. Aaron shrugs.
"Then I shall make it my aim to surprise you, and call her Cassiopeia for as long as I know you" he starts walking off, making me jog to catch up. Aaron seems to be going out of his way to annoy me, as always. But that might have something to do with the fact I kissed him the first time I met him... as I dare... I think.
"Where are we going?" I pant. Aaron is practically running, leaving me to trial behind, clutching my side, my damp hair clinging to the side of my face. He slows, allowing me to catch up.
"You should get out more, go jogging or something" I pull a face.
"Just going outside is more than enough. No -"
"'No food or wifi and it doesn't interest me'" he tries to mimic my voice, rolling his eyes, laughing afterwards. I chuckle briefly, and give him a playful shove with my shoulder.
"Yeah okay, you know me too well" he laughs again, and shrugs. "So where are we going?" I ask again.
"Just some place I found, I think you'll like it" I shrug, and turn my eyes to the road in front of me, slowing slightly so I can follow Aaron. I swear out of the corner of my eye, he reaches back, his hand almost to his, but as soon as I look down, it seems his hands are in the pockets of his jeans. I must be seeing things.
"So what do you think?!" He exclaims, gesturing to the paradise in front of my eyes. I'm lost for words, because nothing can really describe it, or no word I have ever known to exist.
We'd walked, trekked, hiked for over two hours, and now, finally, this was it. The rain had died off, making it even more beautiful, but I doubted even the rain could mar this oasis' beauty.
In front of me, was a lake, a wide open, natural lake, surrounded by vast amounts of pine trees, but it was what was on the beach that had truly caught my undividing attention. There was a small, wooden beach hut, with a thatched roof, smoke dancing out of a small chimney. There was even a hammock out side the hut.
