Nate's POV.
I stand in the airport looking through the crowd, trying to find that one special girl. I turned to my right and there she was, her soft, wavey brown hair freely falls just above her shoulders, a smile was on her beautiful face, showing off her adorable little dimples on both of her cheeks, there's a spark on her dreamy blue eyes, a smile creeps upon my face. "Ryanne." I called out. She turned around to my direction and her smile got bigger as she pass through the swarm of people seperating us. I also tried making my way to her, and we finally reached each other, and she pulled me into a tight hug. I hugged back, as thight as I could, lifting her off her feet.
"Hey you." she said, as I put her back down, "Hi." I replied with a smile. "I've missed you so much." she said, giving me another hug, I chuckled, "I miss you too Ry." I said kissing her on her forehead. We broke away from our hug and I placed my hand inside the pocket of my jeans, feeling a little a ring inside. It's my mom's, the ring my dad gave her, when he proposed. It has a silver band and three diamonds, two pink ones on each side of the big white one in the middle. My mother gave it to me 10 years ago, she said I should give it to the woman I'm gonna marry and spend the rest of my life with. And I just know how much Ryanne's gonna love it. I remember her sitting in our kitchen, when we're about 8 years old, staring in awe of that ring on my mom's finger, and how she said she'd like to have one exactly like that when she grows up. Should I give it to her right now? Or should I wait until later on? I asked myself. Soon deciding to just give it to her right now.
"I have something to tell you." I said, realizing she just said the same exact words, a split-second later. We both laughed. "You go first." she said, I shook my head, "No. Ladies first." I replied, totally not expecting what happened next. She smiled and took a big breath before announcing, "I'm getting married!" she squeal with happiness. I tried saying someting, but nothing comes up, I'm still too shocked and there's still a million and one questions running through my head, "What?" finally a word escaped my mouth, I was hoping that I heard her wrong, wishing that what she's saying is just a little prank she planned for me, praying she didn't just said those words, "I'm getting married!" She repeated, this time showing me her engagement ring on her little ring finger, I swear, my heart stopped beating as she showed me her left hand, proving that she is really getting married. "Well? Aren't you gonna say anything?" she asked, I tried smiling, I really did, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it, instead, another question came from my lips, "When?", she smiled, "In two weeks. In Glendale!" she excitedly replied. I shook my head, in great shock and disbelief. "Wow. Uh. Wow, I can't, I ah, I just can't." I tried forming a proper sentence but, I couldn't seem to find the right words. "Nate? Are you ok?" she asked, sounding real worried, she probably noticed how I'm sort of hyperventelating. I nodded. Then shook my head. No. I wanted to tell her so badly. No I am not ok. Who is he? Who is this man who stole you from me? A couple of questions I wanted to asked, but didn't dared to. I fear when I find out, it will just show how I'm not really the perfect one for her.
And I was right. Because a moment later, a man, a very good looking man, he was a bit taller than me, and had broad shoulders, a great physique, a charming smile and a pair of piercing blue eyes, came behind Ryanne. "Hey. I've been looking for you." he said, giving her a peck on her lips, making my heart ache even more, "Sorry. I saw Nate and got too excited." she explained. Then she turned to me, "Zack, this is Nate, my bestfriend." she told the man, I gave half a smile. "Nate, this is Zack, my fianceé." she beamingly introduced. Zack smiled and offered me his hand, "Nate Ruess. It's so nice to finally meet you. Zack. Zack Summers." I slightly shook his hand, "It's nice meeting you too." I lied, but secretly, I would punch him on his perfect little face if I could. "So you're the lucky one." I said with a sigh, making the happy couple laugh. "I guess you can say that." he said, looking dreamly into Ryanne's eyes. I remember looking into her eyes, and God knows how much I tried not to, but every single damn time, I keep getting lost in those perfect blue eyes of hers. That should be me. That should be me with my arms around Ryanne as she happily introduce me as her fianceé. We should be the one excited to get married in our hometown. It should be my mom's ring on her little ring finger. That should be me and Ryanne laughing whenever people would tell we're the lucky ones. I should be the one looking into her eyes and just fall all over again. That should be me. Not Zack. Not any other man. Me. That should be me. Why? Why can't it be me? Why can't I be the one she's in love with? Why?
"Well? Are we just gonna stand here in the middle of the airport or are we gonna find some place to talk?" said Zack, bringing me back to reality, "We could have coffee at Starbucks." suggested Ryanne. "Great idea babe." he replied, "Nate?" he said looking at me. I shrugged. "Sounds good to me." They both smiled. "Great. Let's go then." Zack said. He laced his finger with Ryanne's, as they happily walked out of the airport and pulling their luggages behind them. I walked behind them dragging my feet and trying to pick up all the little peices of my heart shattered down on this airport's floor.
