The sixth grade was buzzing with anticipation on the first day of the new school year. Everyone was talking about different things but I knew what everyone was thinking: Were we going to be chosen? Tension instantly filled the air as Mrs. Jordan walked toward us. Her curly hair bounced with every step she took. The fifth and seventh grades were staring at us with more excitement levels that matched our terror.

"This year," Mrs. Jordan began,"our sixth grade was chosen."

Immediately several people in my grade fainted and everyone but me and a few others began screaming bloody murder. My blood ran cold but I held my feelings in.

When a certain sixth grade is "chosen" per say, they are forced to compete in a contest instead of going through the school year. This may sound pleasant to some of you out there, but you have yet to hear the catch. Once your school is chosen, you have to participate in a sort of yearly survey done by scientists. They "survey" eleven to twelve year olds where they are basically allowed to run rampid. They set up several settings and let us loose, changing the setting every month. We don't go home at all during this time. No one really knew why they did this but one thing we did know was that they always collected the data. I planned to find out what that reason was. I had prepared for this in case it happened. There were always murders because the scientists caused them and if you got hurt no one was going to come and help you. You defended yourself in this game.

My best friend, Alley, said,"Wow! Everyone seems surprised." We had trained since we were seven together and we had already decided to team up.

Mrs. Jordan was reading the conditions: you had one day at home to prepare( today) and you could take into the competition anything that you could wear ( bags not included) all the kids in the school lived in the neighborhood across the street so everyone got home pretty quick.
