Prologue - You Said You'd Be Faithful

NIALL'S P.O.V

I am so exhausted. I don't know what it is about aeroplane flights - especially long ones - that make me so tired. They just do. Despite being so tired, I was still extremely excited to see Lauren. That's why I'd cut the bands trip a little short. I couldn't miss our one year anniversary!

Even if it was going to be at least ten o'clock before I get there.

I just hope she's home.

Recently I've thought about proposing to her, she's just perfect and I really do see a future with her. All the boys seem to love her, and El and her are like best friends. I even went ring shopping with Harry the other day in New York, but didn't buy one. There was just one perfect one I had in mind and I hadn't seen it yet.

Still immensely tired, I found myself parking up at her house, checking my watch, I realised it had just gone half ten.

Itching to have her in my arms I got out my car at top speed and to her flat as I fished the keys to her door out of my pocket.

Please be home. Please be home. Please be home.

I kept thinking to myself as I turned the lock and walked inside. Ah, good to be back.

"Lauren! Babe! I'm back!" I shouted.

No response.

I sighed. She must have gone out with friends or something.

I decided to wait for her, she would be back soon enough, and still, it wasn't like I had anything to do.

Just as I passed the stairs to go to the kitchen to fix myself a drink, I heard a noise from upstairs. Curious, I decided to check.

Her unmistakeable laughter could be heard from her bedroom. Why hadn't she responded when I'd said I was back? I thought she'd be happy and surprised? Maybe she just hadn't heard me. Though I felt a very bad feeling gurgle at the bottom of my stomach.

I swung the door to her bedroom open, and sure enough there she was.

Fucking another man.

I felt my heart instantly smash and my eyes begin to well up.

She looked up at me, shock in her eyes. How could she? She knew I saving myself for marriage. Our marriage. I turned away and ran, not able to look at the scene any longer, the pain in my chest becoming unbearable.

"SHIT! NIALL! I CAN EXPLAIN!" Lauren screamed chasing me down the stairs. But I had already left.

"NIALL!" She screamed outside the door.

But I had gone.
