“Time sure passes by when you’re having fun.” Well, it was a first in a long time since this phrase came true in my life. Penelope, Erica and I are still in the living room, finishing up the last of the strawberry cake while having tea.
“H-here you go, Nat.” Erica hands me over the last slice of the cake over a small plate.
“I’m kinda full now… can’t I pass on this one?” I held my tummy and it was feeling uneasy. I may have had too much cake.
“That isn’t fair Nat! Eri and I also have our slices!” Penelope demanded. Indeed, there were still three slices and we divided it equally amongst ourselves.
“Can’t we just take it home?”
“I-I am at home so technically I can’t…” Erica said in a nice way.
“Just man up and eat the cake Nat!” Penelope took a bit of slice at her cake and ate it.
“Argh fine! Let’s go, my stomach!” I gulped and picked up the pace in eating that last slice of cake. I like cakes and other sweets, but I think this is the first time I’m starting to dislike it. Each time I chewed and swallowed that cake it made my throat a bit itchy and I drank tea immediately after swallowing one. Through my continuous effort of chewing and swallowing, I managed to finish down that last slice of cake.
“I’m finally done!” I felt relieved for a moment and soon felt my stomach churning. “N-now I don’t feel too good…”
“A-are you okay Nat?” Erica reaches out her arm and gently rubs my back.
“Yeah… I think I’ll live…”
“Haven’t you eaten this much cake before Nat?” Penelope asks out of the blue right after she finishes her share of the cake.
“Well… I do keep myself on diet, so I only eat cake on special occasions.”
“R-really? N-no wonder you have such a figure.” Erica complimented me, making me a bit flustered.
“And I’m guessing you do a regular routine of exercises?” Penelope asks again as I reply, “Yeah, but I do it mostly on the weekends.”
“D-do you sleep early too Nat?” Erica this time asked the question.
“Well… from time to time.” I’ve got to admit I still play a little bit of Grandiel before sleeping and wake up a bit early for the same reason. This conversation went on until my mom called me and told me to go home. Penelope joined me as well, and we left Erica’s place after saying our goodbyes.
“Thanks for joining me home, Penn.” I smile at her, knowing what her intention was.
“I can’t just let you go home alone now, can I?”
“That’s why I’m saying thanks. You’re… a good friend.”
“G-geez Nat, any more of that and you’ll end up making me embarrassed.” Penelope was a bit flustered but after a brief moment of silence, she soon asks me a question, “Say Nat… are you… you know… talking with ‘him’ again?”
“Him?”
“You know… Chris.”
“O-oh… well… he came to see me earlier, after the exams.”
“So… how did it go?”
“I guess it didn’t turn out too well.” I sighed and stopped walking, thinking about earlier.
“Wanna go talk about it?”
“It’s just… I wanna talk to him… but I’m afraid what I might say… like earlier, I…”
