I wondered why Daemyn had been blushing when I asked him if he was okay. It was just a question. Did he...
No way. He couldn't. I'm not an especially pretty girl or an especially nice girl. How could he be attracted to me?
I felt like the air between us just became awkward. Neither of us spoke and the only thing you could hear was our footsteps and Muffy's occasional squeak. If you subtracted those sounds, I think you could've heard a feather drop. I wondered if Daemyn felt as awkward as I did. Or Muffybutt. I snuck a look at his face. He was looking right at me. We both turned away, blushing. That was weird. Was he looking at me before I looked at him?
Ugh. There was so much drama even though we were supposed to be on a mission. Or maybe it was just me. This was so confusing. Even killing the Cakes was easier.
I reflected on how Charlotte had told me about how I had more power than I knew about. And how I had just destroyed the entire kingdom of cakes.
I looked at Daemyn. "Ready?" I asked. "It's time let the king see how tasty he is. Killing time." I grinned at him evilly, hoping to make him nervous. He was, and the expression on his face was so cute. It made my stomach jump just thinking about it-Oh no. Was I falling for him?! No way. He was this arrogant brat who hit on girls. How could I possibly fall for a boy like that?
Because you've spent more time with him than any other girl, and you know his true nature. He's actually a good guy, a little voice nagged at me. I ignored it.
I turned to another, more important subject. "How do we get out of here?" I asked.
Daemyn jumped slightly and turned to me. "Um...I think there's a portal. They have one in every kingdom so everyone can travel to and from. It's usually at the center of the city, so everyone can protect it, but since, you know, you defeated everyone, there shouldn't be a problem."
Well, at least that was easy enough. Good thing too. I was getting tired of so much work.
We walked in silence toward the middle of the city, but this time, it was comfortable. I don't know what changed it but I was glad for that. I decided to strike up a conversation. What could I say...
"Hey. So do you have a girlfriend?" I blurted. Oops. That was definitely not supposed to come out. He turned to me and smirked. He said, "Why? You jealous?"
I could feel my cheeks turning a deep red so I turned away furiously. Stupid mouth. I wished I could take it all back in. "I was just trying to strike a conversation," I mumbled. My mind was screaming, liar, liar, pants on fire. You're jeeeel--ous!!
"Well, to answer your question, no. I don't have a girlfriend," he said a few moments later. For some reason, there was a sense of relief before I mentally kicked myself in the head. I should not be thinking this way.
Daemyn, surprisingly, stopped my mental rant by talking about his life back in Hell. He told me how his mom had left him at a young age, after finding out that he was a demon.
Apparently his dad never told her he was a devil. Pouring his heart out, and surprising me, he told me about how he had cried after his mom, and begging her to come back, but she never even looked back, and called him a freak. She died of a "natural cause". Daemyn thought that his dad killed her for calling his son a freak.
After he told me, we were already halfway to the center of the city. Feeling like I owed him something, I began to tell him my life story.
When I was a little girl, there was a guy in Heaven who would stalk me for days. This got Daemyn laughing again and I was happy to hear that. He had a deep, resounding laugh. It suited him well. Shoot. There I go again, thinking about him like this. I must stop. Unfortunately, I wasn't successful. Trying to keep my mind off of thinking about him in that way, I continued with my life story.
