"Why are we packing our bags" Lucy asks.
"We are getting out of here I already have mine ready, we have to get away from 'mom'."
She looks at me, with a look of relief, like she's been expecting those words for years, it makes perfectly good since if she has, today was not the only time Lucy has been beaten. Her and I both have been beaten many times, for the tiniest things ever, while Lucy packs her bag I look at everything I packed, 5 pairs of clothes, all of my money ($568), three pocket knives, 10 cans of food, a can opener, 2 extremely fluffy blankets, 1 light blanket, my ID, my drivers license, and my stuffed brown dog (I had a brown dog when I was little named hunter, but he sadly died at the age of 13). I also bring 2 bars of deodorant, soap, and several water bottles.
"I'm ready" Lucy seems happy to get away, I'm sort of am, It means we get out of here, but there will be no roof over our head.
"Follow me" I quickly whisper
I head into my room and open the closet. I grab a bag of doritos, and hand them to Lucy
"Okay, let's go" We head down the stairs, and head out the back door. Slowly I walk to the front of the house, Lucy close behind. I take my car keys out, and unlock the doors to my white car, with tinted windows. Lucy gets in the back seat, I put our bags in the trunk. I turn on the car.
I hear my mom opening the door, she sees me getting into the driver's seat, I know i'm screwed, but i'm not giving up yet. I close the door put the gear in reverse and back out of the paved driveway as quick as I can I turn onto the road and drive, i'm not planning on stopping until i'm at least four hours away. Eat your doritos I gave you, we have a long drive ahead of us.

After five hours I pulled over at a rest stop, and told Lucy she could get out and walk around. I noticed she had some books with her in the back seat, I smiled at that, the fact that she loves reading so much. I opened the door went to the trunk, grabbed one of my pocket knives, a can of soup, a big fluffy blanket, and a can opener.
"Here" I give her the can of soup, blanket, and can opener. She opens the soup, gulps it down, takes the blanket and lays down. I go up to the front seat, and think for a while. I don't know where we will live, or what tomorrow will bring, but I can only hope for the best.
"As long as my sister is ok, I'm okay" I repeat that phrase in my mind till sleep finds me.
***
The next morning I start driving, trying to find a place to eat breakfast at. Lucy still sleeping , is softly breathing, reminding me of the up and down of the sea. I decide to turn on the radio, with the volume quiet so Lucy won't stir. I turn it on to a News Daily to see what it says about today, but i'm mistaken. Today, its not talking about the weather... News Daily is talking about... Me.
"Our top story today is about a high school graduate, only the age of 17, who kidnapped her little sister! Thats right, Carmen Brown, 17 years old, with blond hair blue eyes!"
What's next is worse... I hear my "mothers" voice on the radio.
"Ma'am how do you feel about your daughter kidnapping your little girl?" NO my mom is going to lie I just know it! That filthy, dirty-blooded woman is going to lie, and get me sent to jail!
"I feel devastated, so sad, I don't get why Carmen would run away- I mean kidnap my sweet dear lucy" God, that evil jerk has done it. She used her sweet voice to make it seem like a kidnapping, How could she! I am so, so I don't even know how to describe how I feel.
"Ma'am" Daily News is asking for more lies then! "You do realize that, you are sweating, red faced, and looking like you're trying to cover up a lie" I slam the off button on the radio, accidentally waking up Lucy.
"Hey Lucy-Bucy" I try to talk cheerfully "Did you sleep good" She looks scared in her eyes, I really don't need her to be worried, while i'm worried about jail time.
"I heard it all" she's breathing heavily now. "GO" she screams "DRIVE" so i do I drive, and drive heading north, hoping to get to kansas, so that we won't be found as easly. After an hour, I stop at Denny's. Only because Lucy is hungry, and she says Denny's has the best pancakes in the world. I order four pancakes, two cups of orange juice, and some bacon. I take it to my car, give Lucy half, and devour my half. I'm still worried sick about the police showing up, with two guys, most likely in their thirties walk over.
"Hellllooooo Hottie" A fat one says "Wanna go down to the bar next door, we drink some, then head down to my place"
"Get away from me now you pervert" I yell
"Whoah! She's a feisty one, Maybe we should carry her to my place, skip the bar?" They grab my shirt, I take my pocket knife out from my pocket as quick as I can.
"Thank god I bring this" I think. I point it at them. They let go back up, and get away. I get in my car, tell Lucy I'm okay, and start driving, getting away from those drunks.
