As i'm driving I notice a sign out in the distance, when it gets closer I can finally make it out:
Welcome to Kansas . Finally. Were here. We made it! My happiness only lasts for a while. The car skids out of control, Lucy starts screaming. I panick and hit the break, only inches from driving off of the bridge and falling into a river.
"Don't panic. It's okay Lucy, we're okay" I soothe her by repeating that line over and over. Slowly, I back up turn back on to the right side of the road, and keep driving. Finally I find a parking lot outside of a Walmart with a sign that says Now Hiring. I guess we'll sleep here tonight. I sigh. I need to find a real place to sleep. I tell Lucy to stay put, and I walk into Walmart. As soon as a step in I freeze. I see two police officers asking a clerk about A girl named Carmen... Me.
"LOOK THERE SHE IS" yells a blond officer "GET HER" I run, as fast as I can, all the way to my car I hop into the front seat and hit the gas. I hit two cars on my way out. I hear sirens behind me, then out of nowhere a police car comes out of nowhere right in front of me. I slam on my gas, The officer driving the car moves out of the way to avoid getting hit. There's probably about five police cars following me! BANG! BANG! Lucy is screaming again.
"LUCY GET DOWN" I screech BANG! One of the bullets hits my side mirror. BANG! BANG! BANG! Lucy ducks for cover still screaming. I look back at her, ducked down on the car floor screaming, and I notice she's holding my Plush Brown Dog, the replica of Hunter.
"Good" I think "She's distracted she will be fine." The sound of sirens gets fainter but I keep driving, all through the night I keep driving.

In the morning I pull over at a drive thru and order some food for Lucy and I.
"Turn on News Daily please I want to see what it says" wow she wants to turn on News Daily, just to hear more lies about me.
"Okay" The word just slipped thru my mouth, I didn't expect it. I turn on the radio, that I have hated ever since I heard my mom's voice on it.
"Our follow up story, about Carmen Brown kidnapping her sister, Lucy Brown, is devastating!
Carmen Brown was spotted in A Walmart In Kansas. After the police office demanded for her to freeze, she started running, she ran into her car and started driving. The police officer gave chase. They started to use force, by shooting M16s yet Carmen still escaped. People are asked to report any suspicious behavior, or the spotting of Carmen Brown" I turn off the radio. This is not working out my way, it's only working out my mom's way. Now I know for certain, if they police find- wait no- catch us, I will be sent to jail, and Lucy will be sent to 'mom', who will beat Lucy non-stop to make sure Lucy never runs away again. I start looking for a place to park so we can go to bed. As soon as I find a place, an abandoned parking lot, I fall into a deep slumber instantly.
***
I wake up to a tapping on the window. I look out and see a woman probably forty-two. I nervously roll down the window.
"Yes" I ask. She stared at me for a moment and said "I know you're Carmen Brown, and I know your sister is Lucy Brown." I jump and get ready to hit the gas but I get interrupted from my getaway a moment later.
"There's no need to drive away. I know your Mom, Ashley Brown, I know she's abusive I know your dad, Connor Brown, I know he's a drunk drug addict."
"How?" I question
"I'm Your Aunt Christina darling. Come with me so you can have a real place to stay honey"
"Do you promise you won't take me back to my mom" I'm wondering how scared I sound after I say that.
"Yes" see says it with a voice full of love that I have to trust her. So I drive behind her car I can only hope for the best.
***
After we unpack in our new room in Aunt Christina's house, I sit down on the queen sized bed, Lucy and I have to share a bed, because she only has one guest room, with one bed. I'm perfectly fine with it, and I can tell Lucy is too.
"Lucy, Carmen! Dinner is ready!" For once we can have someone yelling for us, and not have to worry about pain as bad as a lightning bolt.
"COMING!" Lucy and I say, perfectly in sync. We walk down the hall into the magnificent kitchen, with its many brown cabinets, its double oven, a modern backsplash, and a giant fridge.
"Here you go dears." She hands us each a plate piled with Fettuccine with alfredo sauce, with a side of buttery lobster.
"WOW" Lucy delightfully yells "I have NEVER had lobster before!
"Will I hope you like it" Aunt Christina Cheerfully says. I take several bites before realizing something is wrong. There's a chalky taste to it, and Aunt Christina hasn't taken a bite.
"LUCY" I scream "DON'T EAT ANYMORE" but it's too late, slowly my vision gets blurry, then I get a horrible migraine. The last thing that I see before the drugged Lobster and Fettuccini knocks me out is my sister passing out, falling to the floor.
***
I wake up in the room, Lucy is awake to. She has a gag in her mouth, her hands tied to the bed.
"Thats weird." I whisper "she only tied you up" Lucy nods to something across the room. I look over and see her.
"She took a bite of the meal." What the hell the woman, our supposed Aunt Christina, ate some of her own personally drugged meal? How does that work out? I take my pocket knife out of my pocket and cut Lucy free. She doesn't say a word, she just follows me outside, and into my car. When we get a few miles away I hear sirens again. I hit the gas, yet it's too late, the police car slams into the front of my car, knocking off the bumper, and shattering the windshield, the police officer jerks open my door and puts cuffs around my wrists. His partner walks over to Lucy and asks if she's ok.
"NOOOO" I scream "DON'T TAKE LUCY BACK TO THAT WOMAN" The police officer takes out his paton and hits my head with it, knocking me out immediately.
