Chapter 1: The Cubs

Kallik lay calmy in her den, The snow above her comforted her, The cub with her yawned and stetched.

"Kuusura, You awake" Kallik said with a grin. Kuusura nodded, the red in her fur glimmered in the snow and the dawn light. Kallik udge Kuusura to the side and stood up, digging out the exit. It was perfect time for hunting, Seals would usually swim in the warm waters at dawn and dusk, and no other bears would be out because it is so early. She exited the den Kuusura followed behind. They started walking towards a usual seal hole they would go to hunt. On the way, they chat.

"Mom, Mom!! Who were your friends again?" Kuusura asked jumping up and down in exitement.

"Well, There was Toklo, Lusa, and your father, Yakone. There was also Ujurak. But.... Hm.. Have I told you the story of the little bear?" Kalllik smiled at Kuusura as she spoke.

"No.. Tell it to me!!" Kuusura yelled,

Kallik looked up at the sky to the little white dots.

"Hm. The stars are still out, Perfect. So. You see that one big star? You know what that is. Anyway, Look south, Can you see a small bear?" Kallik said pointing at the certain areas with her claws.

"Mmhm!"

"Well, That is Ujurak, The little bear, Son of Sura, The great bear. See those 5 stars? That's the avalanche, And those other 3 stars are his friends. One brown, one black, one white. He ran in front of his friends into the avalanche... That's when snow-sky comes. The avalanche represents snow-sky, the 3 other bears represent love, the little bear represents family. It basically means that even through snow-sky, or burn-sky, you ill always have friends and family.." Kallik smiled and nuzzled Kuusura.

"Wow.. That star must be you huh!?" Kuusura asked pointing at a bright shining white star out of the three. Kallik nodded. Kuusura smiled and looked at her mother, Nuzzling her. Her mother was the best mother she could have have, and the only one, Who else had a mother who has a place in the stars? Then, they came to the seal hole, Kallik ordered Kuusura to stay back and be quiet and not move. Kallik sat by the hole and waited, Crouched and ready. After about 10 minutes, A seal jumps out the hole, Kallik acts fast and grabs it with her paws, then biting its neck to kill it. Kuusura claps her paws together as Kallik drags the seal onto the ice.

"Come eat!" Kallik invited Kuusura. Kuusura ran over and started eating it, and Kallik did the same.

Lusa and Kissi sat on a branch together eating berries happily, They lived on the edge of the Melting Sea so they watched the water flow on the shores as burn-sky was on its way, The leaves swayed in the trees as they nommed on the berries.

"Mama... When will I get to meet your friends?" Kissi asked looking at Lusa.

"Oh! At the longest Day gathering! All the bears meet up there every longest day, Its coming up soon!" Lusa exclaimed with half a mouth of berries.

"Oh." Kissi smiled and looked at the horizon. "Kallik must be a skylength away!" She exclaimed pointing at the ice.

"Yup! Did you know normal black bears don't know what a skylength is? Your lucky I was friends with a white bear!" Lusa exclaimed spitting out a small seed. She wipes her mouth of berry juice and snicked.

"Woah! And what about Toklo? Where would he be right now?!" Kissi asked with the widest smile Lusa had ever seen. Kissi was so exited about metting her mother's best friends from when they saved the Last Wilderness, Met the sky bear known as Ujurak, Had amazing adventures across ice, land, and water.

Lusa sighed and frowned, looking behind her, "Toklo is in the trees... somewhere.... He has grown to hate The Longest Day gathering because that was when we.. split up..." Lusa looked at her cub with a warm smile and nuzzled her, "But I Have you, Kallik has her cub, and Toklo has his. And all the other bears, Nisa, Tobi, Oka, Ujurak... Have eachother in the sky, the ice, the trees, and the rivers...." Kissi smiled back and snuggled up to her mother as the sun began to sink over the horizon. Lusa looked at Kissi and snicked.

"Ive told you about the death of Ujurak.... Right?" Lusa asked. Kissi shook her head with widened , curious eyes. Lusa chuckled and started telling the story.

"A few Longest days ago... We were about to knock down a flat-face den, To save the white bears at Star Island, We chased a herd of deer to knock it down, It worked! But in the process... We... started an avalanche... It was coming down fast on us... We would've died, But, Ujurak quickly turned into a musk ox and protected us from the avalanche by pushing us into a cave... Inside the cave we found markings, Of three bears, one brown, one black, one white.... And there were two brown bears above them... one large and one small, We couldn't believe it! It had to be us, In fact, It was, Do you know where your name came from?" Kuusura shook her head, "Well... It came from, Kissimi, Kallik.s first cub.. It was an adoptive relationship but it meant specialty to her... That's why I named you after it... Then we got out of the cave and Ujurak.... Was gone..."

The large pads of brown bears crept through the forest, One pair was large and dark, the other was small with a mixture of a white. A scratchy small female bear voice was heard, "Dad, Why cant we go to the Longest Day? I wanna meet new friends!"

Toklo growled and looked at his cub, "Because, Chiluli, Youll just lose whats dear to you... Heck, I might drown in the lake or something!'

"Jeez. Don't need to be so..... Protective.... Its just a lake. You've crossed that lake before." Chiluli grinned at her father.

"I almost drowned! I fought my enemy who was twice the size as me! Youre lucky I survived or you wouldn't be here!"

"Dad.... Calm down.... Please.. Your scaring me..."

Toklo looked at his cub and frowned, "I- Im sorry..... Here, Wanna story? I have many."

"Hmm... Give me some choices."

"Well, Theres, The Death of Ujurak, The Bear in the Sky, Three bears, The death of the two creators, and that's about it."

"OOOOO! The death of the two creators!"

Toklo smiled, "Great Choice.. So, The two creators are me and Kallik's mothers, If they hadn't lived or what not, We might have never went in that huge journey... And the death of them both was devastating...." Toklo saw a good covering of rocks, "Lets go there as I tell you."

They padde to the small cave like cliff and lay down as Toklo went on, "So.... It was burn-sky, Kallik and her brother, Taqqiq, were traveling to the land with their mother, Nisa. On their way they came across a large water river through the ice, They couldn't go around and I was far to deep for the cubs to swim, So Nisa took them across. After she safely got Kallik over, On her way back a herd of orcas attacked her mother!" Chiluli gasped and lay down getting interested, Toklo grinned and carried on, "Sadly... As hard as Kallik tried to save her... Nisa was killed by the orca, Leaving her and her brother on two different sided of the ice.... She couldn't swim and neither could Taqqiq, So she just went forward towards land..." Toklo said, By now the sun was dipping, Chiluli yawned and lay down, Toklo padded over and lay down next to her. "Your lucky to have your father stay with you... You know that, right?"

Chiluli yawned again and nodded, "Best thing ever..."

Toklo smiled warmly and lay his head down next to his cub's, "Part two of the story tomorrow.... Alright?" Chiluli nodded and immediately fell asleep.
