"Identical Twins, a boy and a girl" The doctor proclaimed.

As the small boy was gently placed in Ancient Greece's arms, Ancient Egypt held the baby girl. Ancient Greece's face illuminated with motherly love. Her little bundle of joy was finally here, and she was beautiful. All the Balkan nations gathered around to meet their new sister.

"They're so tiny and pink." Ancient Britain smiled.

"It never ceases to amaze me who cute these babies are." Ancient France sighed.

"What are you going to call them, Ancient Greece?" Rome asked.

The atmosphere in the room grew tense, Ancient Britain grabbed her sword from its sheath and stood ready to fight. Rome put his hands up in defense, it seemed he wasn't looking for a fight. Ancient Greece calmed her friend, and returned to her child.

"The boy is name Hercules and her name will be Salem. The new countries, Greece and Yugoslavia." Ancient Greece smiled, cradling the small child.

"Beautiful, only the best for Greek children." Rome said, stroking the Salem's head.

"You can hold her, if you'd like." She smiled.

Ancient Rome hesitated for a moment, then carefully cradled her in his arms, the tension in the room had completely faded away. As he held the small child, she opened her eyes for the first time. Rome blushed as she sucked on his finger. Ancient Egypt handed Hercules to Turkey, watching him smiled proudly. When Hercules opened his eyes, he began pulling on his chin.

"Ouch! That hurts, little one!" Turkey groaned.

"So cute, I hope my grandchildren are as cute as your are." Rome cooed.

"They seem happy." Ancient Greece smiled.

"Yes, to say the least, our greatest adversaries have been lulled by such harmless young children." Ancient Egypt sighed.

As time passed, Hercules and Salem grew inseparable. They couldn't stand being apart, but when they were it was like losing half of yourself. When they were old enough to venture around by themselves, Ancient Greece was in the midst of a war with the Ottoman Empire. They stayed together, worrying when or if their mother would come home.

"Hercules, do you think mama is thinking about us?" Salem asked, kicking her feet on the swings.

"Of course she is, Salem. Mama says, we never stray far from her thoughts." Hercules smiled, pushing the swing.

"What if she loses, what'll happen to us?" She asked.

"I don't know, I think we're gonna live with Aunt Egypt." He said, shrugging at the question.

The war went on for years, but when it ended. . .everything changed. Ancient Britain came to inform the twins of the news, she was accompanied by Ancient Rome and Turkey.

"Listen, my poppets. Things have changed, I'm afraid you won't be staying here." Ancient Britain sighed.

"Where's mama? I want to see mama!" Salem whined.

"Your mother is dead, and I'm taking the boy." Turkey said, staring down with cold eyes.

"You'll be coming to Italy with me, gattina. I'm going to be your boss." Rome smiled.

"No. No, no no! Hercules, do something!" Salem cried, tears burning her eyes.

"This is unacceptable, I refuse. You're not going to separate us, we're people." Hercules growled, embracing his sister tightly.

"You're nations, these things happen all the time. You'll just have to deal with it." Ancient Britain sighed.

"Hercules!" Salem cried as Rome went to lift her up.

"Leave her alone!" Hercules screamed.

"Get back here, there's no use in fighting!" Turkey growled, grabbing the boy's shirt.

As the siblings went their separate ways, Ancient Britain looked away as she fought back the tears burning in her eyes.

"Dearest Dalfina, Hercules, Salem, please forgive me." Ancient Britain whispered to herself.
