Sonic paced back and forth in front of Amy's door, shoes crunching in the snow. It was Christmas Eve, so Sonic decided to do something special with Amy. He had a scarf wrapped around his neck. He didn't really care about the cold wind. What he cared about was how Amy would react if she saw him there. What would she do if she saw him there? Would she jump on him and smother him like every other time? Or would she be surprised to see him there, and ask him why he was there?
"Hey Amy." He mumbled, stopping at the door. "I just.. I was wondering if you wanted to go ice skating? You know, as friends." He slowly raised a fist to knock, and jumped when the door opened.
Amy came out and stared at him with curiousity. "Sonic? What are you doing here?"
Sonic immediately felt nervous, and butterflies began to fly in his stomach. "W-well," He stuttered. "I was... Wondering i-if you wanted to go... I-ice skating?..."
What is wrong with me?! He thought as he placed a finger under his nose.
"Just as friends, I suppose?" Amy asked. He blinked and looked at her. Her smile was a gentle one. Not the usual happy-girlish grin that she would get every time Sonic would ask her to do something.
"Uh, yeah..." Sonic said slowly. "As friends."
She beamed. "Okay. Sounds like fun!" With that, she skipped away, leaving Sonic blinking after her.
Strange. He thought, then jogged after her.

As soon as they got their skates, Amy ran off towards the frozen lake, bouncing excitedly with each step.
"C'mon slow poke!" She laughed. "I thought you were the fastest thing alive!"
Sonic rolled his eyes and followed her. He strapped on his skates and slid onto the ice, keeping his arms out for balance. A pink blur spun past him, making him look up to see Amy in front of him. She gave him a face and laughed, spinning and landing in a perfect position.
Sonic grinned. So that's how you wanna play?
He skated after her, bending somewhat low as he advanced. As soon as he reached her, however, she moved aside.
"Gotta be faster than that!" She chirped.
"If you say so!" Sonic called back with a grin. He sped up with each stroke of his feet, staring at her with determination. She moved at the last second, dodging his hands with a laugh. His grin turned to a scowl.
Each time he'd miss her by inches, and each time he'd become more irritated. He finally lost focus and slipped. He could here her laughing in the background as he crashed into a mini snow hill. It fell on top of him a moment later.
He poked his head through the top and scowled at the laughing pink hedgehog, irritation doubling.
"That wasn't funny." He grumbled, brushing off snow on his shoulder.
"Oh c'mon, Mr. Scrooge." Amy teased. "It wasn't that bad."
Sonic huffed. "If I was Scrooge, I'd be inside counting money."
She giggled, and most of his irritation lessened. He then grinned mischeviously, and lunged at her. She yelped just as Sonic grabbed her arm and spun her around. He brought her to face him.
"Got ya." He said, grinning victoriusly.
She gave a playful smirk. "Yeah, yeah. Rub it in my face all you want."
They both danced for the remaining hour, laughing and enjoying the moment.
An undescribable feeling rose as he threw her around. Her quills would whip through the air, and she would give an excited squeal that made him smile. He didn't know what was happening, but he knew one thing. It was an amazing feeling.
They both slowed to a stop, breathing heavily. They sat on a bench near the ice rink, smiling to themselves.
"That was... Fun." Amy said.
Sonic nodded. "Yeah. Alot of fun."
She turned to him, eyes bright with hope. "Could we... Do this again? Still as friends?"
Sonic thought about it for a moment, then shrugged. "Why not?"
Amy smiled brightly and clapped her hands. "Thank you, Sonic!" She cheered. "Thank you so much!"
Sonic chuckled. "Don't mention it."
Amy's smile slowly disappeared, and she looked up.
"What?" Sonic asked curiously. "What's wrong?"
Her cheeks went red as she pointed up, and he looked at where she was pointing. Above them was a mistletoe, hanging off of a tree branch. Heat rose to his cheeks as his eyes narrowed.
What a coincide. He thought glumly.
Amy cleared her throat. "S-so... Guess we should... You know."
"Yep." Sonic agreed nervously. He looked up at her, and she stared back, eyes filled with embarrassment.
Here we go. He thought, and leaned in. Amy did the same while closing her eyes. Sonic closed his own.
Their lips then met. At first, Sonic tensed. Then became aware of the feeling from earlier, becoming stronger. He then defined it as love.
I'm... In love with Amy Rose? He thought. It wasn't a bitter, disgusted thought. But a gentle, surprised one. Somehow, he was able to accept this.
Amy pulled away, and his lips felt cold. "Well, that was that." She said quickly, then rushed off, leaving Sonic blinking after her.
He stood, unstrapped his skates, and ran off after her at half speed. He caught her not seconds before
"Amy wait!" He called. He stopped in front of her with a curious look. "What's up with you?"
She looked down, and Sonic knew that she was blushing. "N-nothing. I was just... Embarrassed, I guess."
Sonic narrowed his eyes. He brought a finger under her chin, and raised it, so that he could look into her eyes. Then, he leaned in quickly and pushed his lips onto hers again. She gave a muffled yelp of shock. He snaked his arms around her waist, bringing her closer. After a moment, Amy moves her lips over his and her hands were placed on his chest. His head buzzed with delight as she did so, and he intensified it. Amy continued to kiss back.
Sonics lungs finally screamed for air, and he pulled back. But he still kept her close and eyes shut. He placed his forehead on hers with a smile. "Merry Christmas, Ames." He whispered.
"Merry Christmas, Sonic." She replied dreamly.
